Im new to your website so give me a break. Im going from a 80 inch to a S+S 124 inch in my fxr. It does fine with the 1 7-8 inch dyno power pipes. I have a Thunderheader in the rafters in my garage I herd that big inch bikes love the Thunderheader, but the sound does nothing for me. Got any suggestions?

Ear Plugs! he he he!

Seriously, some of the best performance through the entire RPM band is through stock Harley head pipes with the factory cross-over, most are hidden low now so the cross over does not show, and a quality slip fit muffler. A favorite of mine and many others is the cycle shacks. Noise is not objectionable, although definately not on the quite side either. They make great torque curves and are alot quieter then a thunder header.

My experience and .02.

Stock head pipes will not be enough for that motor, the 124 is going to need a lot more pipe.

You can run the thunderheader but it will run out of air by the time you hit the big RPM numbers, low end TQ will be great, you may have the typical thunderheader dip at lower RPM which can be fixed with a small metal plate across the rear of the baffle internally, John Golden does this on thunderheaders and it removed the dip from mine.

You'll probably find that in the long run you need stepped headers

2 inch headers into cycle shack slip ons will make great power (Bobby Woods favorite) I run bassani pro streets on my 116 now it really woke it up over 5000 RPM and yes you will go over 5000 with the big motor LOL

80 to 124 huh big change.

You need to look into a solid rear wheel eventually, make sure the belt is good, get synthetic in the trans and motor it will help with the bigger motor, and make sure you warm that motor up good before you go rompin on the throttle.

Thanks for the comeback. I'll check it out. I need to refrase this. What I ment by the sound of a header did nothing for me was I so used to a two into two pipe, not a header whather it be a white bros or a thunderheader. I dig loud pipes. Does that open up my options?

Thanks for the correction. The motor we worked on was a 107. I would assume the two inch header may be an improvement as well on that motor but the curve was sooooo sweet! I have no experience with a 124. I should have paid more attention to the post.
