| HD Wide Tire Kit, how's it handle My 07 Street Bob is designed to allow a change from the stock 160 rear tire to the 180 rear "Wide Tire Kit" that Harley D. offers. I'd like to hear from those who've tried it. I'm concerned if it changes the handling much. Is it available with only a stock 180 or can I get Elite 3's instead?
Thanks. |

| the handling should not change. i think the 3's are available in 180 size. there is a thread on here recently that had the 3's different sizes.....hope this helps...

| Thanks for that link Chuck. It also shows tires named the "Harley Davidson" series. Don't know if that's bad or good. One of the service guys at HD warned me not to go to 180, but the senior service manager, who is now the general manager once mentioned it casually, as if almost everyone switches when their stock set of tires needs replacement. He didn't seem concerned about it handling differently at all.
I will check on what actually fits my Street Bob with HD, I'm not in a rush though, so I'll ask when I happen to be at the dealers. |

| i think handling problems start when you get over 200....i know it is a real bitch at 250 and up.......but, i also understand that once you get used to the wider tire you compensate for the lack of handling.....just more stuff to worry about.........they look good, but are crap for handling.......

| Thanks Chuck. I know there must be a few members who've actually done the change to the HD wide tire kit, hopefully they'll pass on their impressions. |

Hellboy, if a 180 would fit without needing a narrower belt or anything else I'd consider it.
IMO those great big wide tires are for show bikes or drag bikes, not daily riders. |

| I agree Lucifer, I'm not crazy about those Batman tires myself. I must admit though, the wide tire kit that HD offers as a direct replacement does look a bit more badassed than the stock tire and if it doesn't affect the handling. well....
why not? That's why I'd like to hear from those who've switched. |

| just put a gal with a tiny butt on the jump seat in a thong,
nobody will look at your tire then......
aint cheaper but its probably more fun...
I wouldn't go over 180, handling gets strange.

| I'm more into the bigger rear if you know what I mean HRK, but the thong idea works for me The HD "Wide Tire Kit" is a 180 tire that doesn't require any special fittings, basically, just plug and play on my Dyna. That's why I'm hoping to hear from some who've done it, and how much different it is.
I ride in NYC a lot and my riding style is the split second, quick response kind. When something's happening in heavy traffic I tend to charge forward and through, rather than lay back. Nothing silly or dangerous, I'm just not afraid to thread the needle and find it's safer to get away from bad drivers than wait see what other stupid sh*t they'll do next. So, I wouldn't be willing to sacrifice much control for style.

| So we should change your lable to "Sir Mix a Lot" ?
Been to NYC many times
Ridden in a ton of cabs
I'd rather be on the subway... LOL
180 is what's on my 09 Glide,
Handles fine.
150 is on my Heritage
handles fine
jmo if you have to buy a bigger wheel (certain size tires require a minimum wheel width to be safely mounted) it's not really worth it.
a 150 or 160 is plenty wide and works fine...

| I did the 240 on my dyna and it took a few days to get used to it but now i don't even notice the difference. Plus i think it looks pretty badass. (JMO) I've gotten quite a few compliments on it, that's for sure. It is however alot of work, the 240 that is. My opinion would be to go for the HD kit, you won't notice any handling issue, at least not with that small of an increase. (again, JMHO) Good luck |

| Yeah, 240, it was a challenge but I like it. There are pics in my gallery. Good luck, let us know how you make out. |
