Gas dripping from carb drain tube

So, the other day, I go into my garage and am met with the smell of gas. Turns out that gas is dripping ever so slowly out of the carburetor drain tube. This has never happened before and I'm wondering what might be the cause.

Thanks!

The needle and seat are leaking inside the carb, either it is worn and needs to be replaced or there is a piece of crap stuck under the needle, you can either take the carb apart and clean and or replace the needle and seat or run the bike with the fuel off until it shuts off and then turn the gas on , sometimes that flushes the crap out, Todd

Exactly, try cleaning out the bowl as it may just be some crud or lacquered fuel keeping the float needle from seating. Otherwise you'll need to replace the float needle (plunger).

Re: Gas dripping from carb drain tube

Thanks for the tips. I let the bike run with the fuel shut down until the carb emptied. I did this four or five times. Even added some carb cleaner to the gas.....let it run a while and then, again, shut the fuel down. Then ran it again for a while. I think it solved the issue.

Thanks again,

SV

Re: Gas dripping from carb drain tube

one other thing to check is the oil. be sure it hasnt been thined by excessive gas in the oil. depending on how long the gas was leaking past the float, the oil could be contaminated.............
