what is the correct way to jump start a bike i have electric charger i put the cables on the battery and with charger on startedthe bike my buddy said i burnt out his stator this other guy i know siad i did no harm to is bike at all who is right?

I've always been told you can jump from bike to bike...but not a larger vehicle like a car to bike. Too many AMPS is the key I believe. I would not think a battery charger would toast anything unless you had one of those big professional units that can run a 50 AMP boost for hard starting. If you used that high of a setting it is possible to do some damage I'm afraid.

More than likely his stator was toast before hand, that's why you had to jump start the bike. Stators go, and they are expensive to replace (parts and lots of labor) but I doubt you did diddly to the stator, you'd have had to fry the voltage regulator first.

I've jumped bikes (mine included) from a car battery without the car running, 12 v is 12 v

i thought the same until i saw a new bike [500 miles] jumped off a car & it fried the stator the battery had gone dead due to sitting long time without battery tender
