| Scooter, I would like to ride to work but it's less than two miles. After reading about how important warming up the engine is I have decided to leave it in the garage and ride the bicycle. Not really trying to save on fuel cost or get more exercise just trying to treat my bike right.

| I ride for fun when time permits..... and I ride to work every day the weather permits....which here in Texas, SO FAR, is EVERY day....including the one evening that dropped to 28 degrees and was raining/drizzling....now that was not much fun for a ride, but needed to get home from work! So far have the bike for 2 years and have over 10K on it....not much by some standards, but still have not done a day trip greater then about 250 miles, NOR have I taken a multi-day trip....now THAT is where you can rack up some serious miles!!!! I get the 11 each way to/from work and then a few more as time and wife allows!!! |

| Daily driver. Here in Tucson we are blessed with good year around riding weather. I have been able to put on 14,000 Miles over the last 17 months. Oh sure the monsoons are not so much fun and there are a few days that the wind would slow down a stronge man but over all there are not to many days that you get up and say the car looks good. | We have a women rider (rids a 04 ultra) who is also a county cop and still managed to put on 18,654 miles on her bike in 12 months. That's not bad for the soggy Northwest. Beat me for total miles on a single bike in one year as being self employed I can't ride to work but would if I could.

| Well I guess I would be the daily rider, but I don’t ride daily as I’m semi-retired. My schedule consists of riding for pleasure a couple times a week and I take a couple of classes over at the community college in order to keep the brain functioning and to stalk the hot young chicks. Life is good…

| I go to school FT and riding the bike is the only way to go as I can park right in front of the building where all my nursing classes are..most students can't do that (thank God all classes are nursing now as I don't have to switch between buildings for each class). It's only 6.8 miles each way to UNLV 4 days a week, but I get 40-42 mpg around town on the FJR, where my Dodge Dakota gets 10-12 mpg (you spend more time stopped at lights than going forward in this town).
The only bummer is riding Las Vegas streets is kind of a dicey proposition..people just don't look where they're going half the time. I've gotten pretty good at watching rearview mirrors and heads to see what they might be thinking. |

| San Antonio drivers arn't much better.....as soon as run you off the road as let you ride!!! How is Nursing School going for you? I know it is a long road, but a good road if it is your calling! |

| >> SK: my Dodge Dakota gets 10-12 mpg << a Dodge Dakota?, must be the V-8 or a 4 wheel drive or both, that’s cool though, a good truck is irreplaceable for a biker. SK, do you actually ride down there by the casino’s? that must suck, gotta really be on your guard for sure. |

| AFNurse..nursing school is more reading than I'd ever have thought! The long days in lab aren't too bad, but we'll see after my first two exams on Monday and Tuesday. Only 16 months, but a long hard 16 months. It'll be over before I know it, but will I survive?!!!
I don't ride down the strip very often. Everybody's looking up at the tall buildings and not on the road..so it ain't safe. When I cross from the west side over I15 to the east side of the strip to get to UNLV I take Desert Inn Blvd as it's an expressway right under the strip. I've been known to come out from under the strip going west at blazing speeds on the FJR. I won't ever be able to say I've gone down the strip at 100 mph, but I can say I've ridden under the strip at..well..I shouldn't say. |

| 100 MPH down the strip would probably be a death ride or land you in jail.
Here in Oregon we have a new law for those who go over 100 MPH, if you get caught you loose your license permenently.
My full size 4X4 Chevy truck with the 6.0 motor gets right at 12 MPG City and around 15-16 on the highway. I figure that's not bad for a big truck. |

| Sorry to but in, but losing your license permanently?!?!
For only exceeding 100mph?
Curious to know what their take on first time DUI/DWI is...
If it doesn't exceed speeding, then it sounds like someone is legislating with and axe to grind.

Go to jail and only loose your license for 30 days, but don't get caught again.
Oregon has some real low tolerances and then other times they don't seem to care. We live in a state that tries to regulate everything and it seems that they try and over protect consumers. |

| I am a daily rider. My 2003 sporty is my transportation. It is used for work and play. The wife and I go everywhere on it. It is also used to hunt and fish with. The only days it hasn't been ridden is when the belts broke. All 5 of them... It is now in the process of being converted to a chain drive. A man up in Oregon is building the sprockets for me. Can't wait to ride again. |

| Do I dare ask how you managed to break ALL the belts?
My 05 Sporty is also belt driven, of course, hopefully I won't do the same thing too!!

| the first belt broke from a bolt I picked up on the road. The rest broke at various mileages. The sprockets, alignment, belt guard everything was checked out. The tension was checked on a regular basis. I do ride two up most of the time with my wife. The bike is my transportation and recreation. I hunt and fish on it. For awhile I thought I was carrying too much on the bike. But the Harley shop said I should still get more use out of the belt. I've talked to some other sites with sporty riders. It seems on what type of roads you ride on may have something to do with it. I am on a lot of clay, limerock, gravel and sand roads where I hunt, fish and camp at. Others seem to have problems in the same type of terrain. I can see where this could be hard on a belt. I have also ridden in some of our thunderstorms for miles. Then listened to the belt squeegie water out for the next few miles. I imagine that doesn't help either. But I am going to solve all of these problems by going to a chain. The sprockets are at the hardeners now. I can fix a broke chain on the road with a few extra links. But man when that belt brakes, go get a trailer. I just don't trust the belt anymore. |

| Just a thought maybe when you go fishing you might take a boat rather than the Sporty. Dutch |
