Looking for your opinions here. The area in which I live is starting a new chapter of The Defenders bike club (Vets, Coast Guard, RCMP, et al). We have chosen Chapter 13 as our chapter number, but it was declined... the reason, and I quote:

"Bad news. Chap 13's not accepted. Something to do with the 13 and 1% tie in."

What the fu*k is with that? Its just a number! I don't think that it has ANYTHING to do with 1%ers. The number "666"... sure. The number "81"... sure. But 13? Ahh, no.

What do you think?

Sounds like they may have got it mixed up or mistaken this with something else. Out of curiosity I tried searching on the term, and unless it refers to bikers filing for bankruptcy I couldn't find anything related to 1%er's.

Far as I know, 1%, 81, Banditos, Sons of Silence and others may all sorta tie together....13 was used in a movie.....old one.....prison rodeo rider wore that on his belt buckle or something like that then got released?? Don't remember the whole story....maybe something like Electric Cowboy?? (or maybe that was a different movie)..... Then chapter 13 for bandrupcy....considered an unlucky number on Fridays.....??!! I would recommend checking with the Confederation of Bikers in your state. I know Tx has one....they "control" all bike organizations within the state and assists with legislation that would impact bikers in the state of TX. Good Luck!

Kinda. When I see 13 used in relation to bike clubs I assume it is referring to the use of pot (M, marijuana, 13th letter) - which doesn't necessarily point to 1% alone. I have known 1%ers who have a #13 patch on their vest, but I've seen others who are not 1% wear it as well.

Last week when I was in San Francisco I went to a Harley dealership in Corte Madera. When I pulled in I parked next to a motorcycle that had a dealer tag and Hell's Angel stickers. The dealer tag was not the official state dealer tag, but a promotional one. The parts guy who helped me was seriously tattooed (no big deal, I have a few myself and while it doesn't necessarily mean anything, he may have had club tattoos - I'm not familiar with HA stuff). I was looking for a dipstick for my softail and the dealership didn't have any. There was a discussion about the difference in fit between the stock dipstick and the one with the temperature gauge, so he offered to try his dipstick in my tank to compare the fit. His bike had a huge black "13" on the oil tank. This led me to lean more towards his club affiliation, although I'm not sure I would have made that connection had I not seen the bike with the stickers on it.

So, I wouldn't say it's strictly a 1% thing, but it has ties.

voodoo its tied to all the major 1% clubs and a lot of wanna be 1%s too as is the diamond with 1% on it ,now u see a lot of smaller clubs just wearing the diamond without the 1%on it.the 13 is also worn by clubs that are not 1% but will still fight at the drop of a hat for their right to wear what they want.im not real sure wher the 13 started at but i remember a story yrs ago that there is a necklace of 13 trigger fingers from custers men that the indians made,so if ya screw around with the number 13 its everyones own choice, but if your just a bunch of happy go lucky guys having a good time riding id leave it alone......................hook

I don't know where I read that thing about pot, but I was wondering how accurate it was. I never asked anyone.

Thanks for the info Hook, good things to know. I don't need to piss anyone off trying to make some kind of statement that's for sure. (I can do that easily enough in other ways.... )

Hey Hot01, I don't know where the pot correlation came from either. I've smoked pounds of that sh*t over the years and never heard anything that related pot and the number 13. Ah, but who knows??
