I've been reading a few things on the new EPA regs regarding customs and kit bikes. The biggest concern I have is the one kit bike per lifetime rule. I don't see how you can be legally limited to one if for some reason your bike gets stolen or wrecked. Does anyone know if there is an effort to repeal or change the wording or is this already etched in stone? Also, what are the limitations on rebuilding a bike? For example, if one were to buy a totalled bike and rebuild it from scratch with a new frame and so forth. Is this considered a custom bike or a repair? I was considering building a kit but got a great deal on a Fatboy so I didn't do it. However, I would still like to build one eventually. The last thing that concerns me if the part of the reg that says you can't sell the bike for a minimum of five years no matter what the cirmumstances are. What's the difference if you can only build one anyway? Any additional info would be appreciated.
