| Early this year (or was it last year? Oh how time flies! ) CD set up a thread about a young man from rural Iowa that had lost his arm in Afganistan because of a rocket gernade. I grew up in the same area (his town is only 10 miles or so from mine and we have common friends), and some of these common friends contacted me while I was working in Germany. They told me that there was a local guy blown up, flying through Air Evac (that was my job) and that he was at the Landstuhl Hospital....could I go up there and visit him, telling him that folks back home were thinking of him??!! I did this, found out he rode, had concerns about riding again as an amputee... I told CD about this and he came up with the idea of setting up the fund and thread "Get Kenny Riding". There were suggestions made for modification of his bike so an amputee could ride, donations made, and much interst gained. Then no follow-up. I could not find out much info, and nobody was getting any info, so we didn't know how the bike was coming. WELL.... Here is a 4 part Iowa newspaper article on Ken Lukes, one of which talkes about him BACK ON HIS BIKE and also has a nice pic of him riding. I want to thank all of you that helped with this project... although we have not heard from Ken (so far as I know anyway), we did make an impact....Ken, the mechanic that did the work, Ken's family, and to friends and neighbors that were aware of what we were doing to help. To this end, I say Thank you. Here are the links to the 4 part article. They are a good read, and I think it is the 4th one that has a picture of him up on his bike. Article 1 27 Nov 05 Article 2 28 Nov 05 Article 3 29 Nov 05 Article 4 30 Nov 05
Again, Thank you, the members and supporters of Bike Talk!

| Great articles and pics. The one at Kearney's gravesite really hurts, but the one of him riding is truly a sight to behold. Thanks for posting this AFNurse. |

| Great job AFNurse,
2 days ago I was talking to a co-worker about how the military takes care of their own and some of the traditions. Unless you have been there they just don't understand how important small jestures make someone's life better.
Again great job to all involved

| Great story! Thanks, AFNurse! I'm also from Iowa; I grew up in Solon which is right between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. That article isn't from the CR Gazette is it? |

| Yup....pretty sure that dad got it from the CR Gazette.....don't THINK it was from the Register, but not for sure. I am from Calmar, about 10 miles from Decorah....up I380, then take Hwy 150 north about an hour or so.....takes about 1.5 hours or so to hit CR, 2 for IC. I have some friends that live in North Liberty now....family (inlaws) that live in Marion and Washington. Definately a small world!! |

| It is from the CR Gazette. I guess they just call it "The Gazette" nowadays. |
