Hi all,
On December 12 Cowboy wrote about his upcoming knee repair In January.
Many of Y'all replied. with good advise.
If anyone has info on knee implant recovery I would like to know when will I be able to ride my Road King. My Dealer errr I mean Doctor will install the new hardware January 21. He says six weeks for recovery but I'm not sure if that includes a 900 mile bike trip.
Your comments and advise will be appreciated.
Thanks
Ed

both the owner of the company I work for and his wife had knee replacements. she did better than he did, simply because she did what she was told and went to therapy like instructed. however they both get around much better than they did. good luck, and simple answer would be follow doc's orders and work the therapy the way they instruct it.

i'd do what the doctor says, take your pain meds and give that therpy hell, it'll come to a point where you'll have to let pain be your judge, as what you can do. be careful with the bike thing. things go right without any complications my bet is you'll on the road in 8-12 weeks. try it to soon, maybe loosen up the implant, may some infection you'll have a long painfull surgery fill future be patient, do what your told, therpy, positive attitude and you'll be be strong

Yep as the Dr ordered,
Sit in chair, leg propped up and pop the pain pills until they are gone, then, call for more, you do want to get up and work it if you don't you'll have a lot more problems.

i've had about 6 ortho surg's the key to a full recovery is ton's of exercising the joint and re-building the muscles. about 90% of you getting back on the road will come from you. the main thing which will get in the way is pain . once the dr says everything is about as healed as can be and gives you the go ahead take them pills and give it hell don't count on them girly-guys at P.T. take charge of your recovery with a strong positive nothing can get you down attitude

Hi EPS
I had my total right knee replaced 11/02/01.My bag was Bicycle riding I made the horrible hundred mile ride twice so my goal was to get back on the bicycle. The trick is therapy. With out therapy you will not have the range of motion an active person needs. I had to go back in the hospital for another problem and had to stop Therapy for a short time It took me all most a year to have enough range of motion to ride a bicycle Just because of the short layoff. When you get on that range of motion machine kick ass. It will be worth all the pain. I stayed off The BMW until I got the strength back. It takes a couple months of work to get back in the groove.
Later ole Ted.
