Oil

hey all, i was just checking out the amsoil website. i found a "a Study Of Motorcycle Oils". on thier home page they have a link to this and you can down load a copy. it talks about different oils and how they tested them and the results. 28 pages long. i would put up a link but know how. well worth checking out.

I think BTOG used to be held in higher regard before they started accepting sponsorship money from Schaeffers who manufacturers synthetic oil and Blackstone who is only in the business of selling analysis kits (and supposedly has threatened those who have challenged them).

Unfortunately the oil industry is plagued with bias and questionable claims no matter what brand or site you visit, even the ones who claim to be unbiased. Your best bet when choosing an oil is to do your homework and objectively weigh the results, cost, and experience from others. Then try a few for yourself and see what works best for you. Truth is I don't think you are going to find a "BAD" oil out there unless you are buying your oil from the 99 cent store. I think synthetics have more than proven themselves in many types of engines so its hard to go wrong with any of the major brands. Find the one that works for you and stick with it. You and your engine will be very happy no matter what web sites and advertisers try to tell you.

There's my 2 cents... hopefully this isn't the start of another oil debate

i have been to bob , i just thought that another source of info would be a good thing. they didn't have every oil out there but they did give how they did the testing. bob's info is good, i learned alot there. we all have to make choices, the more info the better. it woulds be nice if we could get all oils tested and listed like amsoil does. it would cost alot and i don't have the money so you have to use the info that you get, and realise that some info that you get is biased. the way amsoil did it sounded pretty fair.

I went to Amsoil on my last change. Noticed that things were smoother, quieter and milage went up. JMO that Amsoil is a quality product. You can do alot worse for your ride.

Feel free to use it anytime you visit an oil thread it started on another board as the oil question on syn would come up several times a day with wild claims and theory's lol

So the boid was developed by a member to post when one of the threads was started.

Not to take anything away from someone that is asking, I know it's a valid question and there are still people out there that don't understand and some spread rumors etc.

Now that HD has a Syn it's pretty much stopped the neysayers on syn.

I run Mobil1 Vtwin it's a bit more than some but less than HD and the motors always run quiet, I have run Castrol Syn and it was good too. The only one I found any issue with was Syn3 motor seemed to run hotter but it could have been the day I was running it.

With Mobil1, AmsOil, Royal Purple, etc any one of the vtwin syns you should be fine
