Well, this isn't bike related, but it's the time of year for projects. Unfortunately, I pulled my boat into my shop for seasonal repairs. To make a long story short, I had a suspicion for a while that my inboard fuel tank had been leaking, (and by the way I had NOT been using the boat thinking that it was leaking), well my thoughts were correct. The plywood/fiberglass support under the tank was completely rotted out and soaked with gasoline. After spending 2 hours with three guys digging out the polyisocyanurate foam around the tank we got it out. Then starting digging out the remaining foam, the fuel smell was so bad it was burning my eyes. I had to turn on fans and open the windows before we passed out. What a pain in the A**!! Now I am re-fiberglassing the inside fuel well, as well as making a new flooring panel to support the tank, while i am waiting for a new fuel tank to come in......THIS time, the tank will be one of those cross linked poly tanks........Like I said, not bike related but a project just the same......thanks for listening....

I've had boats - - never again. I'd have to give up riding to spend enough time on the water to make it worthwhile. AFNurse, many bases rent 'em - and they fix & stow 'em so you won't have to. Even let retirees rent!
Never heard it better said than this: a boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into.

AF I hear the Navy has some boats you can ride in, you'd just have to ask to transfer LOL
I wouldn't want a boat, not enough time now to ride they are holes in the water you pour money in. JMO
Some folks like them.
good thing you fixed it before sending it up in a ball of fire on the lake!

Oh I know maybe three foot sissybars across the back. do they make thunders for the boat? Hang in there I had my bad run last December as I had posted. Not as "fun" when ya gotta do it....Did I mention maybe installling a set of screaming eagle wires?

I have a small 16 1/2' Runabout that I haven't used in three years now. I could imaging what that's like inside the engine cover by now. I already had a tree fall on the windshield. That's a project for when I run out of projects and at this rate that's gonna be a while. I guess I'll just be buyin my fish again this year.

The deck in my boat had rotted around the bilge sump well. I kept saying I was gonna fix it. Last week I gave the damn thing away. I'm tired of pucking with it and looking at it. Everyone had decided it was the place to put the junk they clean from the yard.
I've got another picked out but I have to finnish my house buying adventure first.

Well, thanks for the responses.....even the smart a** ones! I just ordered my new tank and installation kit, and it should all be here tomorrow and monday. I'll get working on replacing the rotted wood and then get the fiberglassing done. I figured since the new tank is smaller, I'm going to put in a live well in the left over area. It should work out well, I've been wanting to put a live well in anyway and this just turned out to be an excuse to do it. I've got to say though, with regular maintenance, boats are not much more expensive than any other hobby. This boat doesn't owe me anything, it has served me well. Don't know if I'll post any pictures, cuz I'm sure you guys ain't interested in boat pics.

I am assuming that you posted about you boat here because it was one more thing that kept you from riding. Sure, I am interested in your boat, when can I come for a ride? My dad and bother had boats and they are a "commitment" if you actually plan to use them. I understand the work required for a hobby I have a Fiero that is my endless project and well , it seems that you are committed to being able to use you boat or at at least maybe someone should commit you.

Maybe you should drill a hole in the hull to let the fuel out in case it ever leaks again. "Oh...........a water letter outer."

Yur right Friendgregory, I should be committed! Hey Max, I actually thought of a "match" instead of a hole!! If the damn boat wasn't inside my shop, it probably would still be burning in the back yard......
