Well, I must be doing something right in school!! I opened up the mail tonite, and found an invitation to join Sigma Theta Tau International (not a social college Greek system, but a professional type of organization per the wife)..... Not 100% sure what it is yet, but my wife told me that it is a GREAT honor to be invited. So, am going to have to do some research on that to find out if it is something I want to do. According to wife, grades must be good, and often must be recommended by staff/instructors based on community service, or other criteria along with grades...it is not just a shoe in...... SO, that makes for an interesting evening for me! Anyone familiar with this? If so, sing out!!!

I ain't bein smart enuff to be invited to some fancy tado like dat.
You'll have to keep us posted. The only things I ever get invited to are time share and discount vacation sales gimmicks.............oh yeah..........I've been invited to leave before..........but I don't think that counts.
Good luck.

Too cool AFN. That's the honor society for nurses and is quite an honor. I should have joined the national Sigma Theta Tau while I was going to school at UNLV, but always seemed too busy to deal with it. It'll look good on your resume when you retire and go into civilian practice. Are you looking at being a nurse practitioner when you leave the AF? I want to get a couple of years of experience and go back and get my masters so I can.

I went ahead and joined....it is a lifetime membership, yearly dues...if I choose not to pay later, I would be placed on inactive status and could just pay dues to become active again later. I am currently working on my masters degree in Nursing and healthcare education. MAYBE if everything works out....upon retirement from the service, I will teach someplace. Not sure I am really interested in the practitioner route..... When I get done with my masters in nursing in nursing/healthcare education, I should be certified to teach!

That sounds like a good way to go. Schools are looking for good teachers, especially in clinicals. Your experience would be invaluable to students. I know a few teachers at UNLV here in Las Vegas making 6 figures without all the overtime a regular RN has to do to make that kind of money.
