Hi, could someone help answer a few questions please?? My boyfriend bought a 2006 FXDI Saturday. Long story short, The dealership started out with a price of $17,453.06 with NO extras. He thought he was getting a deal when they knocked off $1800.00, leaving his financed balance $15,653.06 (for 7 years with the end total $22,340.64). I believed the dealership misrepresented this bike and WAY overcharged him. After doing some research, I have found the base price for this bike is $12,480.00. How can he get out of this contract? Thank you in advance for your time. Sherri

Ah I just picked up my new FXDI before tags title taxes etc the price including dealer prep set up etc was $13,035.00 But it is a buyer beware game, I called around and found a dealer that doesnt jack the prices. I got quotes ranging from this (MSRP + Dealer prep and frieght) To a yoyo that just got laughed at and hung up on at 16,575.00 *shrugs* if you feel you got taken too bad contact the HD corporate and the better business burea and complain...not that it will probably do a lot of good but it will be a paper trail on the jerk of a dealer. I applaud you for doing some research but.....after the sale is like buying fire extinguishers after the fire....

some states allow a pre determained time frame for returns with no questions asked......might check on the laws in your comunity........but as stated.....homework should be done before the "test"...........

Thanks guys! My boyfriend went to work and asked me to call around for info. Well after 8 hours on the phone to several dealerships, the finance co, Harley Davidson HQ, Complaint depts, a few local MC members, etc...Every one I spoke to gave me the same MSRP of $12,480. I called the sales manager and asked why he have us a MSRP of $14,985. I guess cuz Im a dumb o girl, he told me that was with tax, title, etc...I think he was assuming I could not read the bill of sale other than the grand total, because right below the $14,985, there is list of charges including the tax, title, etc...that brought the total to $17,453.06. But he was real quick to tell me how nice he was and gave me a great deal and knocked some off that total! (I didnt even have to kiss him) and all those mean men at the other dealerships were liars. So, we took the bike back to him last night, with 60 "demo" miles on it and gave it back to him because before we bought the bike, we asked him what the MSRP was, and were led to believe it was $14,985. When I told him I called their sister store and recieve a quote for $12,480, he just looked so confused. I guess they just didnt add in the dumb o girl tax of $2,505.

So we will see today if he calls it a repo. I am pretty sure he misrepresented HIS motorcycle.

ps. I paid almost $5.00 for a birthday card.

Good work. If he wants to declare it a repo get a lawyer. Save all the paperwork and I hope you documented all the calls you made (Date time who talked to and notes concerning the conversation) Keep it all together and as I said if he gets froggy find a good attorney....

Good for you guys!!!

I bought mine for a little higher than if should've been, then found out that the dealer in question "preps" with a LOT of chrome..took that into consideration and pressed on. Besides, by the time I even THOUGHT I might have paid more than I should have , I already had 2,000 miles on the bike. Guess I was kinda hungry for it, yanno? At any rate, I am glad to see that at least SOME people have enough snap do something about it!

Well, The Cinderella story just became funny- 2 days of negotiating, getting all the facts, he won.

Bottom line: signed the papers.
Fact: signed the papers under the impression that $14985 was MSRP.
Reality---yes, could be a lawsuit. But, his word against ours.

So, we get used to the fact that we "lost", (so many more facts, but this is the Reader's Digest version) but we win because the worst case scenerio is, we have the bike and the payments.

Here is the amusing part. They made a deal for all the bells and whistles to be added (before we got there) to make up for his "good deal" . So, we go back to get the bike--everyone's happy. right?

But, all the bells and whistles were there, EXCEPT the passenger footpegs & pillion(which should have been there for the $$$)
He gave us (him) everything else though....

TOUCHE-I surrender. I guess I should just be happy that he didn't put the seat on...it would have probably been attached with bubblegum, rubberbands, scotchtape and paperclips.

I thought everyones first Harley was supposed to be a Cinderella story.

Well, just don't this experience sour your enjoyment of this American made history that you're going to make some history of your own on.

Actually, no it doesnt sour ME. My dad met my mom on a Harley- he collects Cushmans now. ( says he likes going 0-60 in 2 days better-- since he's older).
I am upset because my boyfriend, who has had many Hard-leys, went to get his first Harley and, well,

didn't even get kissed before he got....anyway---lesson learned. Do your homework and research first. But, It still upsets me that he bought it trusting these people to tell him the actual MSRP. He (BF) works at a car dealership and they knew it. You would think there would be some kind of "vehicle sales loyalty" at the very least.

As far as I am concerned, that salesman and the dealership he works for, are in the wrong business (but apparently the right part of town).

Thank you for listening and letting me vent. Wanna see a picture of the new bike?
(if so please send $265 for the next 82 months to Main St--under the bridge)

All kidding aside, no matter what the cost and all the crap for the last 5 days, its worth it, my man is in there sleeping with a great big smile because he FINALLY got HIS HARLEY.

and because yall had to listen to me b-----, not him. Thank you

Hey,

Glad we could be a good sounding board here for ya. As long as you learned from experience, it ain't a total loss.

My wife grew up on them, and rode around with her dad until she was about 14 or so, after that he figured there was enough trouble.

At any rate, if we ain't tied down with our own kids doin' something, then we're gettin' in the wind. Period. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Well alls well that ends well and if the BF is got a grin on his face...what the hell. I would make **** sure the dealer didnt get a lick of business from you for parts service etc. My Uncle used to have a sign over his door as you left the shop. "Satisfy a customer he will tell a person or two. Treat a customer poorly,he will tell everyone he meets for the next 20 years." No telling how much that rip off will cost him in the long run.
As to everyones first Harley being a Cinderella story: well you been watching too much Speed TV. MY first was a long story, basket case and 6 months putting it together. My first NEW bike was during the AMF era...The yoyos at the factory forgot the piston pin keeper in the front cylinder. less than 100 miles and it trashed the cylinder walls. And no HOG roadside assistance then either...lol.

I bought a 06 Ultra last October. Before I bought it I checked around and there were price differences of up to $5000.00 at different dealers for the exact same bike and same color. The high priced dealer-stealer called Paradise doesn't even care cause he knows the rubs in his area will pay his price. I wound up getting it for list price but really had to shop around to get it. OH yea, the high priced dealer tried to justify their prices by saying, look at the nice facilities we have here for you, whoopee.
I support the dealers who treat everyone like they should be treated, fairly.

hey to all.....bf here ....got to get my 2cents worth in. first and foremost thankya'll for the advice and concern, sbob kept me informed and i (we) appreciate the help. i have to get some facts straight 1) (readers digest version)first rule in sales is "its not the deal ya got its the deal ya think ya got. Big Time My Bad . got nothing but harley on the head.....bottom line ...they inflated the price to show my down .....as opposed to giving me a discount they added1500 to the price to cover my down payment basicly lending me the cash and puttin it in the deal and all the mean time they had me beleivin this bike was 1480 msrp or more acuratly LIST WAS 14800 yeah they're list... and givin me a great disc. unfortunatly the facts are that i did sign the contract,in this state ,the 3 day right of rescession is very clear in its def. they had every right to holding me to the contract. nothin good was comin around the corner....soooo THE question to me was "whats it gonna take to make me happy...short of rippin up the contract"......how bout rear seat set up and forward controls..............aproxxx 750.00 ...ifigured...bike/pissin in the wind ....bike/lawyers.court bike w/seat /forward controls all i wanna do is go ridin ....15600 (finianced)less 1500 (dp)=14100 minus 750.00= (accs)were at 13350minus tt&l and all the other bs ...say 1300.00 brings me down to 12050......that aint all that bad for having an 06 dyna sittin in my garage.......just over 250.00 per month i can live with this. But always rembember the first person to speak owns it....peace....bhc

bf here.....i agree. working in a dealership i have some contact with salesmen and i dont trust them. as a matter of fact... a bunch of years ago.... 1981/82 as the 19 year old son of the owner of a major toyota dealership back east ,i started selling cars...i hated it...for one reason (actually many).....the stigma of the title of "car salesman".....anyways the sales manager at this hd dealership is a real pro .....i should have done alot things different......one lesson not soon forgotten.....bhc.

I have heard the same story many, many times whether it be a bike, car, camper, boat, whatever. That is why I always buy used from private parties and pay cash whenever possible. It may not be the easiest or fastest way to get a bike but, at least in my opinion, it's the only way to get a fair shake. I can't stand dealing with salesman, especially for used vehicles.

I also do all my own wrenching on everything I own so that makes a big difference. I can certainly understand the sense of security of having a warranty, roadside assistance and all that. Especially if you are not able to perform any of the maintenance and repairs yourself.

That's where they getchya.

Bottom line: If you're happy with what you've got, don't sweat it. Chances are you'll have it a long long time.

Congrats on the new ride and keep it safe.
