My daughter and I were watching the new Stephen King movie, Desperation, last night. The movie was OK as far as Stephen King goes. I've never really been a fan but my wife and daughter like his stuff.

I have to say I was qute dissapointed with something that could have been easily avoided. One of the victims in the movie was supposed to be a writer traveling the country on a "big Harley Softail" trying to get in touch wiht the "common folk". Those are there words, not mine. When you finally see the guy on his bike, it is a Sportster, an 883 I believe, with aftermarket tanks. They give you a very nice shot so there is no mistaking the obvious faux-pa. The bike is equipped with the original bread basket air cleaner and all.

Now I know this is a straight to cable movie and they were probably on a budget but WTF! King either didn't do any research and and didn't know the difference or he was so cheap that he couldn't bring himself to spend a few more bucks on a used Softail instead of a used Sporty. Since they specifically mentioned the "big Harley Softail", I have to think he knew the difference and just figured he would save a few bucks and no one would be the wiser.

Tisk Tisk Stephen King. I would expect a little more effort out of such a famous novelist that is known for the level of detail that is typically in his books and movies. There are so many Softails out there, I would venture to guess that somone working right there on the set probably had one they could have used for the scene. It's not like they blew it up or anything and they probably would saved more money than they did by using the Sporty, even if they wound up springing for a new paint job.

Pathetic.

More oftan than not, the writer of a novel has very little input into the technical side. This has been one of King's and others largest complaints regarding adopting books to movies. That and the screen play rarely follows the book. The shining skipped so much of the details in the book that at times it becomes disjointed. The Stand actually followed the book fairly well but took two nights of TV.

Did you ever watch the biker movies in the late 60's? Two stroke Yammies sounding like V-Twins?

or when a car or bike lays screeching asphalt rubber sounds ....

in the dirt!

More than likely the screen writers and producers on a budget changed the bike, figured most wouldn't catch the difference.

At least they didn't put him on a yammahondazuki
