Ben

I have to concur with the others your responses come across as an argumentative style vs. stating your beliefs..

These responses attack the others response, you hammer your beliefs as if people will agree or change because if you say it enough people will haveto agree.

It's obvious you feel strongly about your beliefs, you need to respect others.

The use of the quote, response posting technique takes it to the argumentative style of the response.

It's one reason I simply stated to you in the other post, and this one, lets agree to disagree.

CD,
I definitely agree with you about Constitutional scholarship being like theology--endless interpretations are possible. I could probably come up with some textual argument for why the equal protection clause applies to the feds, but there are probably equally good arguments against that too. We're in "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" territory here.

HRK,
Several people are saying that I was being too argumentative, so I have to accept that you're probably right.

I was only using the blockquotes because I thought it made it easier to understand what I was talking about, and since I 've seen CD use that style, I thought is was OK. But if it's coming across as too confrontational I won't do it anymore.

But something confuses me here. Only one person on this thread has resorted to personal insults, and only one person was adult enough to apologize like a gentleman. For some reason the guy who apologized wasn't the guy who broke the rules of the board and started throwing around insults. Why is that?

There's a fine line between vigorous debate and ugly arguing, and some smart people here think I've crossed it. I'll tone it down in the future, and be extra careful not to make what I'm writing seem like an attack.

Well that is a good move, one that improves your perception by others... opps! I used a box quote

We can't see facial expressions, is the poster smiling when posting something, or mad, in other words those physical traits that may lead others to see the post as just discussing vs. dictating (all involved not just you ben) are not there, so the written word conveys multiple messages just as the spoken word can do the same. It's just a tad more impersonal on the net.

It's obviously a subject that people feel strongly about, same as immigration, and probably outside of the war, two of the most oft debated political subjects of our generation.

maybe we should change the forum to

Boxing Ring

Ding ding ding

IN the blue corner.... LOL
