| Y'all sound like me as well, as far as regard for local chapters go.
Having experienced what one of the larger, more noted local chapters was like, I decided that it wasn't what I needed....I wholeheartedly agree with previous posters assessment of other peoples riding skills.
I like to ride on my own way too much, I think. If not alone, then with a very select few, maybe I'm too picky, maybe not. But, then again, it's MY ride, yanno?

| Hi All! I am in my second year with my local Harley Chapter, I can honestly say it's one of best decisions i have made!! We have met so many like minded people, and taken part in many "rideouts", We are looking foreward to our trip to Lake Garda in Italy for the 105th Anniversary, We have made good freinds with John and Sue, who only live half a mile from us! If it were not for the club, we would never have met them! Have a nice Day, John, (near Rochester G.B) |

| I have been a HOG member since '05. I keep it up mainly for the towing service that comes with it. I just joined the local chapter this year, they seem like good people and the most of them have been riding for quite a few years. It is also a good place for the new riders to get some mentoring from the experienced riders. |

| Wow, this is an old thread...
I have mixed feelings about HOG, but like other things, I take what I want and leave the rest. I joined national when I got my current bike because it the dealer paid for it. I was single and figured joining the local chapter would be a good way to meet people. Not sure if I ever mentioned it, but I was married to a 1%er for about 10 years back in the day. He's dead now - not necessarily a bad thing, so I don't take the club aspect of HOG too seriously. I've kept all my patches and pins and stuff, but I don't have them on a vest - or even wear one for that matter.
I was engaged to the director of the local chapter - the guy I left a couple of years ago (I can't believe it's been that long). I hated the way the dealer tried to use us all as free labor for their events, and I know that the dealer hated us because I used to work for her. I put a lot into the chapter but always found myself getting frustrated because everyone's idea of a ride was to meet at 11:00 on a Sunday, ride for an hour, eat for 2 hours, and then ride back home. I had this annual Old Man of the Mountain Memorial Ride that was a full day of the most beautiful scenery in New Hampshire, but nobody could be bothered to ride for a whole day. The last year one person showed up besides me. Before I left NH, I was going to take on the job of senior road captain and see if I could make some positive changes, but I moved.
I'm still a national member but haven't joined a local chapter here yet. I have used the towing benefit before and it's definitely nice to have when you need it. I'm going to the Colorado HOG Rally tomorrow and hope to meet some folks there. I still don't really know anyone around here that rides Harleys, so this will be a start.
Of course I can't complain about the $500 I won from HOG for writing about my trip. |
