| I just got off of the phone with a person in the military. He was asking for an additional discount on top of our already "great pricing".
We hear it all the time, I'm a Cop, Firemen, Military, whatever. Ever since 9-11 it has been in Vogue for those who serve or have to expect Bennie's, free this, free that.....If you expect to receive additional perks because you serve you are doing it for the wrong reasons in my opinion.
To those who serve or have served honorably and know the reason we serve or have served, from one vet to another, thank you and you have my endless gratitude.
To those who serve or have served and fall into the category of expecting Bennie's just because you are or have served: News FLASH! Thank you for your service! However, you are making me ill by holding your hands out like the kid in Oliver Twist. You are already getting a discount! Just why EXACTLY do you deserve a further discount? You go into a retail store that advertises 10% off from retail for military and want to apply that to a store that already discounts?
Using your public service as a crutch to receive additional benefits denigrates those who have gone before you and serve with you honorably and without expecting more than the thanks of a grateful nation.

| As a recently retired 27 year vet who was also a firefighter for 4 years, I have to say I agree with CD. I never expected a discount for my service, though I did appreciate it when it came. And asking for one, or more of one, is just lame.
My only "However" is that we all have the freedom to ask for just about anything (thanks to livin' in the USA), no matter how lame. So I'd suggest that anyone that gets riled by the whiners wanting more bennies just laugh it off and remind the buyer that you have to make $$$ to enjoy the freedom that we all share, otherwise what's the point? |

| LOL,,, I see the term “they” used here, who are they?
My daddy always said “you wont get a discount unless you ask for one”.
I still will ask for a discount, more for a joke than anything else, but sometimes, I’ll get a discount “because I asked for one” BUT, I never expect a discount, what I have given, I gave on my free will.
Don’t hate me because I’m honest…
USN retired.

| DOH! Right on with THAT one!!!
Actually, I found out after a long time buying parts at Auto Zone that they offered a 10% discount for military, depending on the store location.
The cashier saw my ID in my wallet flap. Go figure, coulda saved alot!!!

If a store sells at retail and offers a discount for military and makes it known then by all means take advantage of it. For example, the local race track discounts tickets for active and retired and it says to ask for the discount and show ID.
If you go to the track on a promotion night, it specifically says "no further discounts" over the discounted entry fees. Should a military member expect an additional discount on top of the already discounted tickets?
Perhaps it is just my way of looking at it. I never expect something for nothing....and tricks are never free. |

| Well, what most of these people don't realize is that most places that give such "discounts" have several, sliding cost sheets. I used to work for a guy that gave a military/fire and police discount. He had the A prices..for whoever walked in and just wanted it regardless of price then there was the today is Monday so it's your lucky day price, then the "give whatever group a discount and finally contractors. And even the contractors price was high, which was why we didnt have a single contractor that did business with us. Discounts schmiscounts real question is bottom line how much you shelling out. Theres a shop here that gives "older riders" (55+) 10% off. Trouble is he's 30% higher than anyone else around the area...and we won't even get into how much better prices CD has..... a lot of people are just marks fr the "such a deal I have for you" type of hype.
As to cops firefighter and military "deserving" a better price....hey I appreciate thier service but bottom line is they chose to do the job and get paid for it. When they start giving me a discount everywhere because I am such a sweet guy...I might change my mind and you KNOW how likely that is to happen.....
Ride Free (that means spiritually free not let someone else pay for the ride lmao) |

| You're right Grey Bear, "there's a sucker born every minute", is what that makes me think of.
Ask, by all mean, but don't expect anything off the price...and **** sure don't pitch a fit if ya don't get it!!
