So they moved to rural Indiana to a house on a lake with acreage & pay $600 a year in taxes. | Wooo hoooo! here in California we are ranked #10!
Interesting in the related story on worst states for taxes, California was ranked #15, yet it didn't take into consideration the additional county taxes added on top. Here in Los Angeles we pay 8.25% sales tax compared to the states base rate of 7.25%. Even worse is our gas taxes which tacks on $0.40 per gallon to the state, $0.18 to the fed, then we still get nailed with that 8.25% sales tax on the gas purchase! What happened to "no taxation without representation"?
Oh well, I was born and raised here and plan to stay so I just need to suck it up. |

Thats what I'm talkin about....If you live in a metropolitan area the city jams you with all kinds of additional taxes....There isn't a sole who willingly buys gas in Chicago if they don't have to cause the taxes are so bad....We have signs in store fronts on the borders that read "no Cook county taxes" because they know people will be more willing to shop there. How asinine is that ?? |

| #2 in NH, but we don't have sales tax or income tax, so it isn't as bad as it looks. When I transferred here from NY, they lowered my salary for cost of living, but I was bringing home more. |

But the property values are inflated too so that is also a little misleading but in the other direction. Plus we pay 5% sales tax, a gas tax, excise tax on vehicles on top of the sales tax, state income tax, etc.
There was an article in the paper a while back about a mass exitus from the state due to the high cost of living. Many people and companies have been moving south to save money. I may very well be one of them once my daughter graduates college and so forth. |
