| It seems that i had been banned for asking a simple question on another site. A fellow canuck asked why the company didn't ship to canada. As no response was given i also asked the question. It seems that one of the moderators over there got urked and told me to mind my own business and told me i was on thin ice. This of course was told to me on a private message where no one else could see it. I replied with his remarks in an open forum and was banned for no reason. Not that i want to be banned from here but if someone attacks or threatens don't we have a right to bring that out in the open and let the people decide? |

| I'm not a moderator, but I can't see why you would be banned for asking a simple question. If the guy was that much of a JO, then you probably don't want to be there anyway. Stay here, we're friendly, helpful, and we don't bitch too much! What forum was it? I'm sure someone else will ask, so why not me? You will be banned if you spam other members, or flame at someone, but otherwise you'll probably be accepted like the rest of us were. Welcome aboard and enjoy your stay. |

Everyone's pretty casual here, lots of respect and no spam..life's good, hang around...where in Canada are you from? there are a few of us here |

| I've seen that happen on a lot of boards, fairly common if you step on a mods toes. Don't take it personal even though they did, you are better off elsewhere if they are going to be childish.
The mods and myself here are pretty tolerant as long as everyone respects each other and doesn't spam you'll never have to worry about being banned for no reason. |

| Ken, I didn't want to speak for you, but being around here for a while I know what kind of people are here. We're all a friendly bunch, and nobody ever gets out of hand. That guy on the other board was probably on the rag that day. |

| well let me answer your queations first, 1.) cycle chat 2.) Barrie Ontario with about 6' of snow ( yuck!!!)
It started off with a new forum member asking where she could get parts for her scoot where she didn't have to pay shipping. This forum has a link to JP cycles at the top of their page .... so that's what i suggested and got bad feedback for it as they said to "support the board". I apologized and pointed out that it was a sponsor they had a link to and also asked why a fellow member never had his question answered in regards to shipping to canada. One of the moderators told me if was any of my business, "which it wasn't" that he had private messaged that member about it and told me i was on thin ice. I copied that response to an open forum so everyone could see how muck of a jerk he was being. the next thing i knew i had been banned.
By theway what is spamming and flamming? |

By theway what is spamming and flamming? | What you experienced is very common on many boards, but often for good reason. Forum moderators and admins often have the daunting task of keeping everybody happy and getting along. There are people out there whose main goal on the internet is to drop in on forums and create chaos and drama, then sit back and watch that board fall apart as a form of sadistic entertainment. This is why some forums have mods that are so defensive or cranky. While this forum runs very smooth without major disruption (so far) it is not always the case elsewhere. We have a very laidback environment here but that's not to mean we won't show any bonehead troublemaker the door.
Regarding flamming and spam or spamming, I'm glad you asked because those terms are often misundertood. Both can contribute to an out of control forum that nobody wants to visit. Here's a basic rundown of those terms and how they relate to BikeTalk.
Flamming: this doesn't refer to a male hairdresser who drives a Miata
To flame a forum, message thread, or other member means to bash them or the forum. Similar but not to be confused with a rant, a flame could be when someone joins a discussion with the intention of starting a fight or just being overly disrespectful. It's ok to disagree or state your opinion (here) as long as you respect the opinions of others... no matter how wrong you think they may be
Spam or spamming: most people relate this to advertising but in fact it is the use or distribution of anything unsolicited. This inlcudes posting links to advertising, self promotion of products you are affiliated with, chain letters, or sending/posting anything that was unsolicited by other members. Some forums have ties to sponsors so its natural they would want to discourage other endorsements. In the case of providing advice of that same vendor (in your case) that forum may have an affiliation which they track referals from their own links.
In any case, here on BikeTalk the rules are quite simple and easy to follow. Respect others and don't spam. |

| Bobsled,
Hey, sounds like you've experienced a "communist" sort of site. That s*cks! The Mod's here are just like anyone else on this site. Just a bunch that has mutual joys of owning and wrenching their scoots, or expressing their joys of the open road. Ken has done an excellent job towards his selection of the Moderators for this site (except for me of course, what were you thinkin' Ken!! )
Naw, really, we are just here to look out for the better interests of the members of this site in general, and not necessarily "sitecops" like other sites may have. Generally, if someone gets out of line (really out of line) I'll refer it to Ken for recomendation of actions, but haven't had to yet. We are lucky to have such a great group of folks here that are responsible enough to manage themselves. I hope you enjoy this site as much as I have since joining a couple of years ago!
Have fun Bobsled, you've found, in my opinion, the best bike forum on the web!!!!! |

No way .Barrie is situated right on one of the biggest lakes ( simcoe) in ontario. We are also east of georgian bay and as a result we have wwhat they call snow squalls ( which is usually every day) between december and march. It picks up the moisture from the great lakes , travells a few miles then dumps the bad white stuff for hundreds of miles. It's actually snowing ( again) right now.
Summer and fall are great for riding because we have a lower temp than Toronto( an hour south of here) and there are thousands of lakes and roads to scoot around on .
lets see some pics from y'all! |

| You've found the best Biker site on the net. I've hung out at or belonged to them all. Some of them just aren't friendly. I still poke my nose in at a few now and then but this is home. |

| He asked a question ----- BURN HIM AT THE STAKE!! No questions should be asked, thought, spoken, commented on or looked at.
Just kiddin'..... I've visited cycle chat and asked about the new police interceptor D&D slipons when they first hit the scene, but I didn't get the boot though. Maybe they just watch too much Southpark and don't like Canadians.
I've been here since 2002 or so, then they upgraded the software in 2004, and now here we are 5 years later. Great place for info and chat. Welcome! |
