| Everyone told me 30 would slow me down. I blew past that and never looked back. Then the word was once you hit 40 blah, blah, blah, I just got a "Little" fat, no worries, felt good, ran good. Just a little slow warming up in the morning (rodeo, MX, football, hill climbs ) I'm sure some of you can relate.
I hit 45 this past Oct. and it's been like I hit a brick wall. First of the year it was SARS (whooping cough) which morphed to walking pnuemonia. I've just in the last couple days gotten to where I could breath again with out coughing up a lung. All the while only missing at most a half day of work here and there. My Dr is smoked at me.
Now yesterday while waiting for my daughter's Jr High, girls softball team I help coach to do their warm ups, I bent over to pick up a soft ball and popped my left glutius maximus (sp). Doc says no Scooter for at least 2 months. I tried to get on last night and couldn't get either leg over the saddle. Don't know If I could hold it up if I did (I always keep the break covered, left foot down always)
How old were you when you started feeling your millage?? |

| I turn 50 in April right before I graduate for the second time. While I feel like I'm slowing down some, I'm running 3.6 miles a day, 5 days a week and breaking 8 minute miles. But the problem is when I used to run like this, the weight would drop right off. Now..I keep hovering right at 200 lbs (5'11") and can't seem to get into the 190s for the life of me. I feel good though. The aches take a little longer to go away and I'm on Lipitor for high cholesterol, but other than that..all my lab values are where I want em including blood pressure at 115/75. My dad was over half bald at age 25. I still got the majority of mine..so I ain't complaining (thanks Mom!)
And as long as I can still ride..I feel young! |

| Happened to me after I blew out my knee at 42. Been a sorta downhill slide since. My health is ok, not great, and I can still do the things I've always loved doing (rock climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, etc), just not as long/continuous as I used to. I remember one long weekend a buddy of mine and I climbed about 2400 feet over 3 days and backpacked 15-16 miles to three different locations to climb. It was awesome!!! Now when my wife and kids go, we are there for the day and I set up the climbs (mostly top rope). Although I have been taking my two older sons on some multi pitch climbs and they are loving it... |

| I just turned 60. I'm still running (but slower), Tele skiing (more groomers, less trees now), mountain Biking (because I'm fatter I go up slower and down faster now), chasing my honey (she's older too, so I can usually still catch her). But...I have less energy and am tired a lot more than I was, before say, 55. Weight has slowly creeped up too. I can get down to below 200 with effort, bu I keep easing back to 215. On all kinds of meds for BP and cholesterol mostly. No desire to get air on a dirt bike anymore, I'm perfectly happy 'cruising' down the highway. |

| Some older, some younger, That makes me feel good, I guess I'm aging just right
Last time I was with a woman everything worked like it should, I have a kick stand most mornings so I reckon I don't need any catalyst yet. I'll tell ya tho I sure hate having to think about how will this or that hurt or how long till I'm healed. I guess that's something smart men develop with age
I'm 5'8" weigh about 240 maybe a little more. My BP runs about 140 over 80 has been there most of my adult life. At last check (bout a year ago) my cholesterol was 200 so I'm not worried about that yet. I'm going back on the Adkins soon and will get back down to under 200 I'm happy there.
I despise exercise but, I'm gonna start running with the girls (softball team) I guess and see what else I can do that's low impact. My knees won't take a bunch of abuse anymore the miniscus is about gone. Besides acid reflux and arthritis that's about all that's wrong with me on a full time basis. But man oh man some mornings just suck. I used to joke,
Pain is my friend, It's what gets me out of bed in the morning. And while that was true, now I just go get a pill and go back to bed for a while.
Getting old Sux, but like someone said in the first getting old post
It sure beats the altenative. |

If your doctor told you your cholestrol should be 200 you need a new doctor. A heart doctor will tell you 100 unless you don't mind a bypass or maybe a sludge pump might work. Later |

| Well I've got you all beat. I turned 63 last November and last Friday, I pulled the plug at work. I've been working since I was 16 and it hasn't sunk in yet that I don't have to go to work again. I'll probably get it when the checks stop coming. I still feel great but have a lot more aches and pains now, especially in the morning. After I move around some, they ease up. My doctor told me years ago that we all deteriorate when we enter old age. The more fit we are when we get old is the key to living longer and feeling better . I've been exercising and lifting light weights for several years and I'm sure that is why I still feel pretty good.
Since I don't have to go to work, I think I'll go for a ride!! See ya down the road.

Later | Depends on how you're looking at it. But total cholesterol should be under 200. Your HDLC should be under 100, but not necessarily your total. Are you looking at HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL (bad cholesterol) separately? 2fastnaz at 200 is the beginning of borderline and should keep an eye on it. Mine is 172 and I'm on Lipitor (was 280 before meds, though I had a huge Alaska King Crab dinner the night before the test) and the doctor is happy with my total now..as am I.
TOTAL:
Desirable - less than 200
Borderline - 200 - 239
High - greater than 240 |

| I guess you would know SK, considering what you do and all. Mine was 298 when i went a while back, i told the doc no pills i will do it with diet and exercise. well, 1 month later, didn't even touch anything with cholesterol, not a drop, and it went to 302. Damn, now on 40mg lipitor and it is 160. Oh well, gettin old sucks! Course I'm only 40 but.....not old for a tree.. |

| Yeah the 200 was total and I'm really not worried, it was 180 when I was 18.Dr said I was borderline BP too. New Guide lines say my BP is too high but it's been right there my whole life. Doc said he wanted me on BP meds but I'm not going to do it. From what I was able to gather it would increase my risk of heart attack if I even missed my pill one day or loose my ins. and have to pay for them myself and I can't afford it. I started the asprin a day deal but beyond that I don't want to be tied to meds till I absolutely have too.
If I can just make it to 50 my kids will be old enough to care for themselves. My Daughter is 14 and my boy is 17 this year. That's really all I've wanted since I got them, just to live long enough to see them grown and on their own. To me that is the only draw back of being a single dad. What happens to my kids if something happened to me. I don't even have family I would trust other than my kids. Sad but true. |

| Hi People
This is the latest poop from my MD.F.A.C.C Board certified Cardio Vascular Diseases. Doctor. I wish I could remember the numbers but I will tell what I do remember. My cholesterol total was 180 I was taking 40 mg zocor. At this time my LDL was higher than my HDL He said thats bad so he add ontop of what I was taking 40 mg Vytorin for a 80 mg total.I went to him because I was getting winded when riding my bicycle.Yesterday I rode my bicycle 10 miles 5 miles aganst the wind at 13 miles per hour and returned with the wind on my back 19 miles per hour. In June I go back for a new test. April 1, 2007 I will be 70 years old. I think im gona buy me a new ultra
My wife's Total cholesterol 103 her HDL was higher than her LDL so thats good. But shes only 69 years old.
The old 200 rule was good 5 years ago. You got to lay of the Fryed chicken boy's |

| You guys all make me feel old. I'm 57 a bit over weight not to bad. I carry ladders around and climb on house roofs most everyday, enter attics and crawl when I have to and crawl under a house everyday. My cholesterol last time checked was 240 and the doctor just said eat better and did not want to put me on any meds. My wife was at 290 and they put her on meds right away.
I still ride my Harley like I stole it and as a matter of fact the guys at the HOG chapter always talk about me riding the corners to hot. Most of them are much younger to and most of them ride like they are just learning to ride. So I ride the way I enjoy it and don't look back. |

| I thinkit's all about how you live your life. If you do the things that you make you happy and you surround yourself with beautiful people, then you will not feel so bad about getting old.
