Thumbs down Baby In Marijuana Grow Operation

In the news today for Calgary, Alberta (Canada)...

UPDATED: 2007-05-18 01:18:02 MST

Police discover one-month-old infant during raid on million-dollar drug operation

By TARINA WHITE, SUN MEDIA

Cops seized a one-month-old baby and arrested the child's mother during a raid on a marijuana grow-op in the northeast yesterday.

The Child at Risk Response Team took the baby from a home in Temple, said Southern Alberta Marijuana Investigative Team acting Sgt. Brad Moore.

"Child welfare will be involved and charges are pending under the Drug Endangered Childrens Act," said Moore.

The grow-op included a dangerous electrical bypass and chemical and mould exposure posed serious health risks, he said.

"It's not an easy thing to find a child in these circumstances," said Moore.

"It's one of the few times we've found someone so young.

"We're all geared up and in protective clothing and these people are in these grows breathing the air."

The joint forces operation made up of Calgary cops and RCMP removed almost 800 marijuana plants, with a street value of $975,000, as well as about $20,000 worth of grow-op equipment from the home, he said.

Charges are pending against the 33-year-old mother of the infant, said Moore.[/COLOR]

I don't know if this is a problem in your neck of the woods, but that is becoming a huge issue here. I mean a baby in a marijuana grow operation?! What's wrong with these people?!

I agree too... you need a license to fish and drive. Even need a license to get married, but anyone can have babies...

Maybe they were stupid-ass parents because they did so much pot. Seen it. My best friend growing up is now serving hard time in the Utah pen for armed robbery. When we were younger he was a hard-working guy well on the way to the Amercian dream. Got into pot and that was that. Everything else was less important - his wife, his daughter, his dignity. My uncle was a high-paid, respected aeronautical engineer, and liked to play with pot, too. Never got tested/caught, but wasted his life. Now he lives alone in the friggin woods so he can play with his buds - and I don't mean friends. Even he admits he's pathetic when he's not stoned, but he's made up his world and lives there still. And wonders why only other dopers respect his choice when they visit - and then rip him off (repeatedly - dopers don't seem to learn too well.

I wasn't against it until I saw some of my friends and family piss their lives away after too many bad (or non) decisions. Legal or not, that crap will hurt your life. Anything that makes unreality more important than real life is gonna bite your ass, just the way it is. Anyone that tells you different is lying, and if you're telling yourself that recreational drugs are making your life better, you are lying to yourself. It is like someone joining this forum to be a biker who never rides. Just make-believe, and ultimately sad BS.

hanging head in shame,
i just want the dudes grow equipment, i promise not to let anyone around!!!!
and you'll can say what ya wanna say, there so many things in this world, worst than pot, i know i have tried them all, and a few of them i tried twice!!!!
in 1992 i met my present wife, and at that time i did it all, coke ,meth, pills, acid, pot and achol.....her being the miss goody too shoes, that she is,she would not move in with me till i quit it all, so i did, not for me but for her cause i liked what she had to offer. when i move to galveston in 2000, i started drinking beer again, and i have takin a toke here and there, but what keeps me from going back to smoking pot is the price!!! and i am not talking about the crap they smuggle across the boarder from mexico, i am talikng about indoor organicly grown,no chemicles kick your ass weed. the price for an ounce of good pot,is more than an ounce of gold!!! 400 dollars
i would be still smoking, if it werent for that. it,s just hard to enjoy knowing you could have bought gold!!!! if it was free it would be a much different story.
hanging head in shame, wich leads me back to the dudes grow equipment.........wich i still could not do, cause i am really scared of my wife!!! but it is nice to dream.........

TRG

P.S.
a freind once told me, dog i been smoking pot for 25 years, an i aint hooked!!!! go figure

The problem is where the pot comes from... Like TRG said, an ounce of pot is worth more than an ounce of gold. That being said, it is hence quite a lucrative business. And being such a good, illegal business, it is run by ORGANIZED CRIME. I'm not talking about some guy who has a couple of plants in his basement... I'm talking about people with black market firearms, booby traps, etc, that are growing 1000's of plants at a time. They are also stealing electrical power with bypasses... which causes a huge fire hazard for the grow house and the houses around them. They are also venting from the basement into the air outside... so that kids in the nieghbourhood are being subjected to toxins, chemicals, mold spores, high levels of carbon dioxide, etc. Not to mention the problems with bugs, such as spider mites, if the grow area isn't clean or cared for properly. Then you have the large, violent gangs and other organized groups that control the "pot" market.

It is a huge problem here.

Thumbs up

I only have a couple of things to say here.... 1) People have freedom of choice. If their choice causes their lives to be f%$&#d, that was their choice. If you want out, there are programs out there that can help, but you gotta want it. 2) This has been a problem for many many years. The only difference from then to now, is it is openly talked about. Egdar Allen Poe was a coke addict. I am in recovery from drugs and alcohol. Been that way for 19+ years. What started me on this destructive road, POT!!! But my wife has no problem with it. In fact without it she can't function normally. Each person is different.

I don't even want to say how much money I would have if I hadn't spent it on good weed.......I quit because it was just time, and haven't touched it since, been over a year. I don't drink anymore either, no sense being an ******* for no reason. Just my .02.... Somedays though, my kids drive me to the point where I could go back to both easily!!

peyts???
how do the laws on pot work in canada??
such as being caught in possion of less than an ounce???
here in the states it depends on wich state you live in, on how they adress it
say like oklahoma has a zero drug tolance law,a seed will get you a free ride to the poky.....here in texas iif you are caught with under 21 grams, you could receive a class c mistermeaner depending on who stops you....
where i live, pot is the least of there wories, its the crack ,coke, and meth they looking for, my son was pulled over a while back, had a big ole fatty still smoking in the ash tray, and a small bag under the floor mat. when the police officer ask my son if he had been smoking, my son said yess, that there was a joint in the ash tray and a bag under the floor mat, after the cop went through the whole car, he pulled my son off to the side and made him empty his bag, no ticket, no waring, no jail,
the cop said he let my son go, cause he was honest, up front, and hid nothing

just wondering how it works in other places, for small amounts under an ounce?????????

TRG:

The laws in Canada regarding pot are much more relaxed here than in the US. Here, simple possession of marijuana (under 30 grams) is a straight summary conviction offence... which is equivalent to you misdemeanor. No arrest can be made, but the accused will be compelled to court, where a fine is often issued. Simple possession over 30 grams is arrestable, but again a fine issued by the court is most often the penalty. There there is trafficking or possession for the purpose of trafficking... which is a different story altogether.

But don't miss the point about what I am trying to say. Most could care less about the schmuck who smokes a joint every now and again (though one who drives while smoking ought to be dealt with in the same manner as one who is drinking booze and driving). The point that is being made is the HUGE problems with regards to large scale, organized crime grow ops. Its a big problem.

Of course Canada has problems with meth, crack, coke, ex, etcetera... but the problem with grow ops is that they are also labs with the capability of fires, explosions, etc. Further, so many people have these opinions about "soft drugs", so to speak, that they don't realize the dangers and problems in the production of these "soft drugs".
