| Took the kids to the Sparks, NV waterpark yesterday and the smoke from Tahoe fire was most impressive. Made me glad my firefighting days are behind me. But to the point -
The enviro-nazis would not let people clear around there homes - $1500 fine (or close) for cutting trees near your home, even if they could fall on your house and they were already DEAD. The one guy that said "screw it & fine me" has a home today. His neighbors don't.
Truth is there are more trees in the geographic USA now than when Columbus first landed. We've been planting 'em cuz we use 'em. And fires used to not be put out by tough men and women - there is no word in Shoshone or Piaute for "Firefighter" that didn't come well after ol' whitey and the rest. But is the overgrown, undermanaged forest the problem? Nooooooooo.....its global warming, according to the SF Chronicle and others! Which also must have knocked the helo down that crunched my spine, drove Saddam (an otherwise nice guy) crazy, lowered taxes while raising revenue (oops - that is a good thing, forget it) and elected George W. Bush. Maybe it did get too hot in the White House if he thinks that Immigration (aka Amnesty) bill is a good thing.
Grrrrrr. Oh well, I'll calm down. At least it is varmint season here all year in NV. Figure I'll bag me a Man-Bear-Pig in honor of global warming! If ya don't know what a "Man-Bear-Pig", ya have to see that episode of "South Park" '
Time for more rum - it's a Sailor thing...... ....... |

It was probably some self absorbed a-hole who flicked a cigarette butt out the window of his beemer because he doesnt want to dirty up his ash tray, as he whizzed through talking on his cell phone that caused the fire. |

| or it could have been what happened here in Jersey in the pine barrens.....a fighter on a practice run sent a tracer round into the brush. luckily in the pines, theres not much housing, and it burns quite a bit on it's own from cig butts. |

Another thing that always gets me about the reports on wildfires is they almost always say hundreds or thousands of acres of forest has been "destroyed". BS. It just went through a color shift. I'm not saying burn it all or anything, but fire is as natural as water or land, and the land is still there. The green-weenies want to extoll the virtues of old-growth forests: the serenity. Ya know why its serene? Its friggin dead! Few animals can live there compared to an "ugly" area that has been burned in the last 10 years. Any hunter knows that the best game is to be found in the new growth areas. |

| Amen Chuck, she's kept this place going for millions of years without a problem. Like I said about the pines, it's already starting to grow back with a vengeance. |
