I have to admit that even though there are a bunch of women out there on motorcycles, I still like it when I catch some guy's eye who seems surprised to see a chick riding a motorcycle. So perhaps I shouldn't get irritated when I get treated like a set of hooters that obviously can't know jack about a bike, let alone own or ride one.
My new dealership has been great to me. I've only dealt directly with the service department and you know I've only had good things to say about them. I was supposed to go down last Saturday and see my bike because I was told the new wheel was on and it looked great. I had some other things to do, but I ended up hurting my back and couldn't make the drive.
I went down this weekend but wasn't able to make it over on Saturday. I went this morning with some friends. There were two cars in the parking lot. This is a HUGE dealership and nobody was there. I went back to parts, knowing that they didn't have a clue who I was. I told this older guy (who had ignored me assuming I was with some other guy there who was buying parts) that my bike had been there for a month having some work done on it (I didn't want to drop dollar figures, I assumed he'd guess that if it had been there for a month it was a good bit of change), and I was supposed to be down last weekend but I hurt my back and can I just get into service to take a quick peek. There was nobody within 100 yards of the parts department.
The guy started making this excuse like I wouldn't be able to figure out which bike was mine. The young guy behind the counter was real quick to say he'd open the door for us. So we went in and my bike was right there. The tank was still off because they're waiting for rocker box covers. The old guy tells me it looks like they're doing some motor work. Really? No kidding. So I told him exactly what they did and said how great the new chrome tappet blocks look and blah, blah, blah. He was such a condescending jerk. So then seeing as how he was in parts, I asked him when the last parts were going to be in. He didn't want to look it up, but the young guy started to check and he grudgingly checked it out. Perhaps then he took a look at my entire service order and realized I wasn't there just to get a new points cover. Dumbass.
Later I asked my friends if they thought it was a lack of penis on my part, and everyone agreed. I'm not quick to make that call, but it's so obvious when it happens.
OK, rant over.

Hot,
I would say you have 2 options.....
1. forget about it...let it be, and just know that there are A holes out in the world and you just met one......
OR
2. As you are spending a BUNCH of money at this shop AND it is your first service, being done there, I would be willing to bet that the manager/owner of that shop would like to know how poorly his parts counter guys are treating perspective customers.... That numbnuts could not know that you were a true rider, but on the flip side, should NOT be making assumptions either. If you talk to managment and imply that the way parts counter boy was talking may make you re-evaluate future business or referances to fellow riders he may take notice. Either way, Bevis needs to have a reality check.
What I would have loved to see is when he was talking about eye candy on the bike, have you start going into specific details about what is being done, and any performance values it would have..... then at the end tell him that you were sorry to bore a parts counter guy with details he could not understand without being a rider! then walk out.... Hope you enjoyed seeing your bike otherwise!!

Well im about 12 hrs from Denver. I can call on some Texas Good ol Boys and we can go up and teach this a-hole how to treat a a lady biker. Chuck, AF Nurse, and a couple others would probably join in as well, wheel make a road trip out of it.
You got bail money I bet we can Get-r-Done.
But I agree with Nurse, you should go talk to the General Mgr or the Owner.
That poor parts guy would s$$t his pants If we all came walkin in askin for him, with you in the lead pointing at him!!!!!!!

I guess the Christmas spirit is long past, eh? I say cut him some slack. Could just be that you were the spittin' image of his ex-wife, or him and Jim Beam were too close the night before, or any number of reasons that would be reasonable if you knew 'em. Lord knows I've had my jerk days....I just hope they're all behind me now!

I e-mailed my service advisor. I wasn't too hard on the guy. I just told him that someone needs to let Tim know that there are women who ride and know a thing or two. The service guy sent me back a really nice e-mail, apologetic and said he passed it on to his boss, along with my blog address so the guy could get a clue. He'll hate me from now on, but the dealership is large enough that it'll be OK. If he's the biggest jerk I ever have to deal with, life is good!
Thanks for the backup guys! I knew I could count on you.

Well maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it wasn't a chick thing. Perhaps he's just a smug jerk with everyone. It's funny though. I'm sure he'll get an ear full, and I imagine his coworkers will appreciate it. We could tell the kid that was working with him didn't care for his attitude.
I know that people have spent a lot more money there than I have simply by buying a new bike. But I also know that dealerships count on customers to return for service to make some bucks too. It's not good to piss off a service customer.

I agree abby the dealer tmh is a great dealer large selection and very personable but every carton runs the chance of having a bad egg and tmh has one I agree to letting the management know as the are probably clueless to the problem they will take into accont that he was having an off day. and probably watch him for a while. and when I was there it was about closing time and he was the one I talked to ...Ya smug is plobably the word to use I just took him as arogant but delt with him accordingly but Iwill probably be down there next weekend and give him a second chance and judge from there. as said your money and business is with the service dept. and if he acts like that again threaten the pocket of the service dept and they will jump to action as they already know your money. oh yea how are you doing with the weather down there ? remember spring is coming.

You know what Hot01, F*ck him! The problem with dealers now is that they treat everybody like a jerkoff...If you're spending good hard earned money there, you deserve to be treated properly! (with or without a penis!!) If I treated my customers like that, I would not have a business. For some reason H-D dealers get away with this type of behavior. If I was closer, I would join Chuck, AF, and the rest of the boys. (That sh*t just pisses me off.....)

The problem with this irritating uneducated idiots is that they can't stand the fact that a "chick" knows more than their sorry asses. You should have not only embarrassed the jerk, you should have made someone in charge, aware of what kind of a loser he was, but then again, your bike was still there Otherwise, I would love it if you made him look like an ignorant jerk!

I can't help but laugh at this. Please rest assured he is a dinosaur soon to be extinct.
Both my wife and daughter are intelligent independent women who really don't need me for anything. I like it that way. I have seen more than one salesman make the mistake of treating them like that.
They both have a way of making them look very foolish with-out being offensive or condescending.
I think the world is begining to realize it is no longer, only a man's world.
