| what people DON"T BUY..... I like the old switch and tinker mentality if I wanted watercooled and current technology, and a different crank throw than a HD(not including Vrod,a nice "modern tech" bike but not for me)I'd buy a Metric already in design. That is not what the HD personna and American history of HD is to me..... it'll be gone like real NaScar has done in the last few years....main stream and yuppie-duppie ized......can you say debris on track we'll be right back...... Big BRo can do it anytime they want. I work for a Company that has designed and given 10 vehicles of Semi Truck size to ALL the larger countries governrments that run on 10 differnent fuel alternatives. They wanted to show each government..."hey here it"..now which are you gonna back so people can stop and fill up as EZ as they can with the current fuels. Did anyone here about that? probably not.. and still I like the ol' potato-potato.... Keep it simple stupid....... I will not know what to do..My current bike might as well be a relic...but I like it that way for the most part...then there is my Willie G -FU mentality...but hey they gotta make money so I support them...till I don't anymore... Comformity stinks....now I gotta go answer my Cell phone |

Myself I don't hedge things. Yes I HAVE been around and riding HD's since a lot of the folks here was riding Schwinns with playing cards in the spokes to make a noise. Yes, I have the pictures, road rash and even an old pre-HOG Harley 100,000 miler club pin and card to prove it. Never said I didn't like them I said the Vrod isn't a Harley, except in name. And no I DON'T have a job. Haven't had since the '70's. I work for myself, make a comfortable living and don't have to kiss Corporate America where it don't smell nice. And I don't know who gave you your knowledge of the technalogical expertise of the Knucks, Pans and early Shovels, but it must have been one of those that, like the RUBS of today put less miles on a bike in a year than some of us do coming in and out of our driveways.
"Back in the day", if you did serious riding you figured a new top end (bore the cylinders, new pistons and rings, lap the seats and valves, etc)every winter and 50K miles ya did a engine rebuild. I have used rubbing compound on a piece of glass to smooth the cases enough so they didn't leak, yet the castings were still so posrous they seeped.
Want a solution to the situation with the EPA? Hell it's easy, just a matter of economics. Let HD have a consumer lockout for 3 months, see what the hell would happen. But how many people are willing to simply not walk into a stealership for 90 days and sign a petition telling Corporate why?
When I started riding you didn't just get yourself a new bike, a 800 dollar leather jacket and call yourself a biker. Ya ****in earned it.

| I am probably closer to the RUB end of things.....actually, probably more of an UB....forget about the rich part!!! The one thing that I like to think seperates me from many of the RUBS is the fact that I own no trailer and put on as many miles as I can. My leather is not for looks but for protection. I WISH I could do my own work, but don't have the time, space, or knowledge to do most of the work...... SOMEDAY, I would love to take some basic courses to learn OR buy an old POS that I can just putter with in the hopes of making it run...... learn by trying. |

| I will never be a RUB...Do I make a good living....yes I do, but I work my ass off for it. Anyone who owns their own construction business would know that. Would I consider myself a "biker/1%er", no not hardly. (although I'd never walk away from a good fight) I had to finance my bike, otherwise I would never have gotten one. I don't pay anybody to work on it, I do it all myself, because I love to do it. I learn by asking questions and reading my manual. I'm thankful to all you "older" bikers who helped pave the way for us "younger" guys. That's about all I got to say about that. JMHO, FWIW, on that subject.... |

| AFN & VDC both very well put , as a older biker (not A 1% ) the road was ours at first there was a much older grouper then we are , I can still remember the first HD I seen that was not a cop , It was a red & white with leather bags & bug shield I was about 5 yrs old , about A year later the guy was taking it apart & doing his thing with it about A week later he came roaring up the street same bike but done his way ,
I too worked hard for a lot of years to have what we have today the wife & kids sure liked it , & I'am danm glad I hed this life to live |

| Skull, I gotta ask: "why do ya have such a pissy attitude?" You say you're 50. Don't know how long you have been riding and it doesn't matter, but yes there ARE people here that have been up on two wheels for a very long time. And continue to do so. You run off at the mouth, putting someone down and making assumptions, then when you get called on it ya reply with " Sure, whatever you say "
I would expect that from one of my Grand kids, not from a man just 10yrs short of my age.
