I have a cheap motorcycle lift and its been working until yesterday. One side would not come down and almost lost the bike off the back of it.

I've been checking around for what is a good lift and still not sure. Mine was a 109.00 lift sold by the HD dealer. Any body recommend a good lift that will hold a Ultra?

we have had many discussions on jacks, alot of us I would say use the sears brand stuff. but there are lots out there, might look at some past threads, under jacks or lifts.

I don't know how your jack works, but with mine if one side fails to come down it is because the silly safety catch is in a bind and grabbing. Otherwise it is all controlled by one cylinder and has no choice but work together. I am sure it was exciting and would put me about 4 channels off station for a while after, but chill for a bit and go back and see if that is what happened to ya. Have a friend stand on the silly thing and run it up and down a few times. Might just be a piece of metal needs a bit of hammer theropy. I have the Harbor Freight yellow rascal, and just bought another from a buddy for $30. Don't have a clue what brand it is, but it looked solid and new (he never used it, and wants it out of his way). Just puts a second one in the garage at my other buddy's house.

I did look to see what was causing it to not go down and yes there is a bar that releases both sides that is hanging up on the front side. The bar that controls both sides to release it is now bent. The thing has been a pane in the asss to use for a long time and has finally gotten worse. To get it even under my bike you have to left the bike up and then slide it under and do the same when trying to take it out once its down. I'll go check out the sears unit but have heard that the hydraulic cylinder goes bad quit often.

I just got a easy-lift found it on cragslist for $70 , put my E Glide on it & sat on the seat & bounced around , the easy -lift is wider for the under frame & will hold up real good

Ironically I just had my lift jack fail this past weekend as well. Sounds like I have (had) the same model as yours, with that flimsy cross bar which controls two locking fingers. I'm just glad the jack failed during the initial lift and not after the bike was all the way up. The cheap-ass bottle jack blew its seals but I'm not even going to bother rebuilding it.

This time around I'll buy something stronger. If I'm going to drop my bike it sure as hell aint gonna be off a jack!

This would be a nice lift but the price is spendy and they want $80.00 to ship it. So it would be over $500 for the lift.

Pit Bull Motorcycle Lifts, jacks, are the perfect bike accessory

Marc, that lift looks similar to the one I have. Can't remember the brand as the guy I bought it from has a little shop in Rancho Cordova, CA (suburb on south side of Sacramento). I paid about $350 for it, but it's as stout as they come. I would never trust most $100 jacks (read..Wal-Mart specials) with any of my bikes. Think about it..you spend $15-20k on a scoot and you want to trust it to some cheap metal? Possibly made in China?

Mine has extremely durable wheels which turn and is easy to push and spin around the garage up on the stand. Makes it easy to push up against a wall in the garage and out of the way if need be. Definitely worth the money in my opinion. It's heavy, so it'd cost a pretty penny to ship. I happened to live near Sacramento when I bought it. I'll see if I can find out if the shop is still there.

Let me know what you find out SK.

Here is the lift I have SHINN FU COMPANY OF AMERICA T-2151 "PROLIFT" HYDRAULIC MOTORCYCLE LIFT.

I only paid around 99 or 109.00 for it.

Marc, the only thing I can find in Rancho Cordova is Don Shalla at CenterStand motorcycle lifts and detail stands for Harley-Davidson and Cruisers . It's a flip up stand, so you can only get one wheel off the ground at a time. Not sure what happened to the place I bought mine, which was about 7-8 years ago.

we need to start a new section like we did for the food, parts and tools gone bad you could start by putting those bogus jacks on it. might save some of us some time and money. from someone elses expence. could even do a star rate sysem so if the company or part half a$$ed it, or gave good quality. guess we could prob. do this in that feedback section we already have

SK, I went down and bought a sears lift. There was another lift of very good quality built in Bend Oregon called Big Foot. I remember seeing their lifts and now wished I had bought one. I called them this morning and the phones are disconnected which tells me they are more than likely out of business. Their web page is still up but has no links. The Sears lift is better than the one I have. Stuck it under the bike and lifted her right up. The release bar is much better on the Sears lift than the pro Lift unit also.
If I ever get my shop cleaned out and sell my El Camino I'm going to get a Harbor Freight 1200 pound lift table.

The Sears lift ain't bad. About the only thing I ever buy at Sears is tools. The lift table would be ideal with the proper space to keep it. What year's your El Camino?
