I've never been there either... but the group that I'm going with told me that as long as you plan to tent, it isn't that bad. You can still get hotels, but they are definately hiking up the prices for the Sturgis ride week!

Nurse, You sound like me when I plan for Sturgis. I plan out my first 2 days very meticulously then I totally leave the rest of the week up to God.
If there is one thing I live for anymore in my simple life is to take the week off and go to Sturgis. I would do it every year if I could. Unfortunately with work and a girl friend I always have to plan at the last minute. Needless to say I don't always get to go every year.
Now last year I got to go but I only made it 3.5 hours to Vegas and brokedown. On Monday I was ripping my bike apart in the garage. I hope I didn't use up my favors and can try again this year.
Peyts and all, I would love to have a beer with you. Just to let you know I usually get to Sturgis on a Tuesday or Wednesday and then out on Friday morning cause I am too busy ridin around the country, you know Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, etc. And when I get there usually stay at Hogs Heaven Campground.
That reminds me, I have to start planting the seed in my girlfriends head that I will be going this year. You know.... she'll get all mad and stuff, but if I keep saying it every month from now on it'll wear her down.

Would love to get out there this year, but made a promise with my wife. We do it when she can ride next to me instead of behind me. This being said, the only way this can happen in time for this year is if we win the lottery. Then we'll be able to get it done. I'm working 2 jobs just so we can stay above water and right now, we are just getting by... Maybe in the near future or so...

Looks like I am back on for making it...just found out yesterday that I was not one of those selected for out of cycle deployment. Ends up they are STILL looking to fill medical Tech positions, but nurses are full. STURGIS, HERE I COME!!! Would love to meet, but as I have NEVER been there, Father-in-law is the "planner (with no real plans)" and such, I would not even know where to begin!!! If you have any ideas that would be a "no brainer" let me know. I am not even sure if we are going out to the cow chip....(isn't that that chunk of cow pasture that is roped off with bands, camping etc?!). We may be just doing the town thing and some of the rides.....don't quote me tho!!

well, like I have stated above, really have NO plans......TENTITIVE arrival day would be mondayish.... would be leaving San Antonio sometime EARLY friday morning, Arrive Iowa Friday nite or Saturday (depends on if I drive 1125 miles strait through or break it up). Saturday would be dead day even if I make it up friday nite, Leave Iowa on Sunday..... Probably get to the rally sometime monday afternoonish..... tentitive stay 2-3 days......not sure exactly what the duration is right now.....I have to be back to work (and this is all pending my leave gets approved) sometime around 13-15 Aug.....so have to make the ride home. My guess is that mon-thursday would be safe....not sure if departure would be on Thursday or Friday......

well, got a reply back from Father in law....he normally stays at a campground called HOG Heaven Campground.....no plans as such yet, plan on doing a few rides, may try to get a concert at Buffalo chip, walk around town, see the sites.....otherwise, no real plans. He was talkin about a couple of must do rides, so I suspect that we will do a couple.....he wants to see progress on crazy horse monumnet, so hopefully will ride there and mt rushmore. he was also talking about needles highway as a must, and maybe deadwood loop...... SO FAR, no solid plans tho!!! He did mention making it to Murdo on day one to camp overnite......on way there!
