Hey Guys, the group of guys I usually ride with and I are planning a 4 day bike trip. It's not much, but it's a chance to get away. We are leaving NJ on 4-27 and are planning on taking the ferry into Delaware and continuing south down 1 and 9 (I think it is) and going into Maryland, Virginia, and then into NC. My questions are...Does anybody have any suggestions for things we might want to see, roads we might want to ride, etc? Any other things we might need to know regarding our trip. This will be my first long trip (over 250 miles) and I really don't know what to expect. I've never ridden or been down south except as a kid 25 years ago. (Chincoteaque, Va with my grandparents) I appreciate all feedback, cautions, suggestions, etc. We plan on riding all day Friday and Saturday, then Sunday morning making our way north towards home. Let me know what you all think.
Thanks, Chris

I took that route last year when I did my Blue Ridge Parkway ride. Get to the ferry early. Actually motorcycles and ferries (the boat kind) work well together. Since the bikes don't take up much room they'll squeeze you on. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is cool. After that I headed inland. I've heard the Outer Banks are a good place in NC, but as with the rest of the coast, I'm sure it'll be crowded. The traffic on the coast is killer. After you plan a route, make sure everyone knows where the route is going in cities. Nashville (I went through today) has a lot of interstates converging and diverging all over the place. You probably won't have a lot of that sticking to the coast, but it helps to make sure you know where you are going before you get into the maze.
If I were you, I'd be bolting for the mountains instead of hitting the coast, but I'm a mountain girl, so that tends to be where I'm drawn. Cooler, less traffic, more twisties.

My thoughts exactly Hot01, but I was outvoted. I suggested going north into New England since it is the hottest part of the year, but, again, I was shot down. Whatever, I'll just be happy to get away! Thanks for the tips, and any more you have are appreciated.

You can tell them that you told them so, and they'll have to listen to you next time. I'm doing Tail of the Dragon tomorrow. I plan on being at the Jersey Shore on Friday evening, so that's how long it would take. You'd probably need more than 4 days for that trip.
New England has had a totally crappy summer. Tons of rain. Around Columbus Day is typically the best time in central NH/VT for leaves if you can take a trip then.
