I didn't go to Devils Tower this year. Once you do it you don't need to do it again.

The funny thing about Devils Tower is there is this field on the ride into it that has thousands of prarie dogs right there at the road side. You can walk out to them and it is fun to see how close you can get to one of them before they jump back into thier holes.

biggest problem with going into the prarie dog town is that they tend to be one of the largest carriers of the plague in the USA...... don't think I will step foot into their area......

Yes. Like when I needed the duct tape to tape my dipstick down. Right across the street. Got something to eat at the same time. Also, once you've bought too much stuff (t-shirts) to fit in the bag, mail a box home. It's a good time to get rid of the crap you thought you'd need but just keep packing and unpacking and wondering why you brought it (like my running shoes).

At one of my classes one time I had grabbed my official state t-shirt out of my saddlebag at the last minute while running into teach the Friday night classroom portion. After about an hour into the class I looked down and saw there was grease or road grime or something all down the front of the shirt. I apologized for the mess to the class and told them that if they were going to have issues with getting dirty, then riding a motorcycle was probably not something they'd enjoy.

Good stories and glad everyone got back home safe. I entertained the idea of riding through Sturgis to see if I could catch up with anyone, but never made it out of Colorado. I was headed to Denver via Independence Pass to start my trip when a cager caused me to go down 10 miles down the east side. Ended up having surgery in Denver to put a screw to close a fracture of the head of my left radial bone (left elbow). The bike's alright..GEICO is great..$4200 in damage..cager is not at fault because I didn't hit him! My dachshund who was on the back didn't have a scratch on him as the carrier was glued to the passenger seat with mc tie-down straps. Any way..I'm really lucky as it could've been much much worse. I spoke to AFNurse via phone from Denver and that was good conversation..good man.

Helmet saved me big time as there's a good amount of road rash just above my left eyebrow. I'll never ever ride without one.

I am sorry to hear that. It sure puts a quick end to what could have been a great trip. That realy sucks. I'm glad to hear you dogs OK.

holy cow Kevin!! glad you're not hurt badly..happy that the hound is ok as well. Look after yourself elbows can be a bit tricky, I chipped mine years ago and it's still tender and weak at times. My knee is rough and about one hour before I left work before the trip to Sturgis this year a supervisor blew through the door at work just as I was reaching for the handle to pull the door open...it got jammed pretty good. I had a bit of a time using the clutch for the first couple of days. I can agree with you about helmets being a good thing...heal well

Gang... just back from Sturgis and my 12-day bike trip around Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota. I ended up putting 4440.2 kilometers on the bike, which rode like a charm.

I will send a bunch of info in my next post (within the next day or two) about my trip, as well as reply to some of the other posts here as well.

Ok, I just posted about 15-20 pics from my Sturgis run.....all pictures are of bikes, scenery and me.... those of the scantily clad girls, tho GREAT to look at, I will want to clear before posting (in order to keep the family feel of the board). I don't feel that many if any of my pics are really "porn"....have a couple pics taken at a "traditional wet t-shirt contest".....shirts stay on for short time...then oops...up they go!! just want to ensure the "family envirnment of the site". and really, most of my racy pics are lame!!! I have let my 6 year old daughter look at the pics that I took....she was wondering why some of the girls had their bum hanging out.....??!! Didn't show her all the t shirt contest pics....

and have now added a few of the more "tastefull" pictures....enjoy!

Still a good number of shakey riders out there. I got a chance to ride some '08's at Rapid. I know Goose ain't a fan of ABS but Harley has really got their version sorted out on the FL's....you really got get on 'em before the computer takes over...for what it's worth, I was really impressed. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to hook up with you guys that went there but it was short notice for me..and a short time there..but I gotta ask, who's this crazy gal from Canada?

I tried to call you several times while in Spearfish. The wife and I went down to the camp ground where you were staying and drove through but didn't see you. I can now fully understand why you guys like that place. We had no idea it was so big, I got info on making reservations there for next time. We thought it was just a patch in some grass at the fish hatchery that you guys got each year, that place rocks Bob.

I test drove the 08 Screaming Eagle Road King and was very impressed. Lots of power from the 110 in it and the best part was the brakes. Tried several times to get the bike to lock up on the rear tire and it just would not do it. Very nice brakes on the new bikes wished mine had the ABS. Test rode the Boss Hoss to, simple was not impressed. Lots of power, cornering really is terrible and lots of heat from the motor. Gas mileage really is not good at a reportedly 18-20 by the guys at Boss Hoss.

Like Bob said we noticed that it was very quiet as compared to the last time we were there and not as many people. Seemed to us that there was a kind of different type of people there. Didn't even get flashed this time but did see a women walk out of a vendor tent topless in a town in Wyoming on our way back from Devils tower. The Crazy Horse display didn't look like much had been accomplished but they work strictly on donations. Lots of T-shirt vendors and the 2X ones were mostly all bought up before we got there on Tuesday. Did manage to get some of the Number 1 pig shirts this year, pretty cool looking.

On a really sad note: We had one bike go down on the way to Sturgis in a second group. Lady riding her own Ultra had just had the front end lowered, as a matter of fact she had the whole thing lowered and the trunk moved up for solo riding. she started getting a vibration in the front end before she left so she took it to the dealer that did the work originally. Started on the way to Sturgis and the front end started to wobble. Stopped at another HD dealer and they supposedly repaired it. Well in Wyoming the front end came apart at 75 MPH and threw her off the bike. It was about as bad as you can get without being killed. She was conscious and all she said was call life flight. I have never seen anyone so busted up this bad before from a bike accident. She is a pretty tough women and is a County Deputy Sheriff back here and works out all the time. She spent one week in ICU in Casper WY where they took her. Could not breathe on her own from the damaged lungs. Last we heard she was still there in WY. She did have her helmet on or she would not be alive today. I know she broke 9 out of 13 ribs and punctured both lungs. Broke her arm, both legs and wrists, the big bone in your back was broken and the flesh on one arm was ground down to the bone. Both elbows were ground to the bone. We figure its doubtful that she will ever be able to work again. But she is a fighter so she may surprise us. Really sad to see her like this as she has had a couple of really rough months while on duty this summer. Let her know that I would be glad to help her in anyway possible.

Glad to her your OK SK and the hound to, gage drivers seem to me to be getting worse for riders. Good thing you did have your helmet on and seems to me and correct me if I'm wrong Bob, that while we were in Arizonia a couple yeras back didn't Kev ride without one.

Ouch. I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. I hope she's able to get back together enough to enjoy the rest of her life.

FLHTbiker - Add my prayers to your friend's recovery. I had a "death wobble" event, too, but my engine guards saved my life and limbs (though they were bent back to nearly the frame). To this day I am not certain why - I think it was a combo of low front tire pressure, quirky pavement and low front fork PSI....but I've not had it since I've been mindful of those things. Being busted-up is also not unfamiliar, and not something I wish on folks.
I sincerely pray for her speedy recovery.
