Anyone know if the engine out of a 2013 touring bike will fit into a 2008 touring frame, if not why and if so what do you do about the electronic/ automatic compression release.

They changed the frame in 09....

I would presume they changed the cases as the way
the front engine mounts is completely different

good question. I would think that the cases would be the same in each family. balance or not. I don't remember the cases being different between a Dyna and a touring rig, just the engine mounts. could be wrong though.

Interesting question but I do think HRK is correct as they did change the frame in 2009 and the engine mounts are different. Wonder if the 08 mounts will match up to the new motor mounting points, just a thought.

I know the frame and the mounting points are different but is the casting on the front of the crankcase different. According to Harley's part manual Twin Cam remans show a range from 2007 to 2011. [my book is a 2012] for Dynas and touring. As the frame change was in 2009. It looks like the engine will fit.

So the mounts from the 08 might match up to the newer engine?

I don't think the engine itself had changed, just the mounts for a different frame. My bike is buried under cover in the garage so I can't say for sure. I'm just going with the old book here and knowing that the same engine is used in Dynas and Touring models. changing the crankcase castings for a frame change sounds expensive.

I agree with sleepy, ive been looking at my parts manual and comparing with on line parts manuals, it looks like the lower mount to the frame is what is different, of course i dont have a new style motor to measure the distance between holes in the cases, the next question is will the primary drive stuff work on a newer motor.

The 2013 frames are a lot better than the 2008 frame.

Really amazes me how we all got along on bikes older than 2008 for years. I had older bikes Ultras and softails and never had a problem because of the frame. My 2003 Softail handles just fine.

Mine did remember, the flywheel went bad and they rebuilt it then the mechanic screwed up the oil pump after rebuilding it and I lost oil pressure. I rode it back anyway and they just fixed the oil pump so I decided to dump it as I would have had to dump a lotta money into replacing the motor because at that point I did not trust it.

So got me a new bike with the new info center which I really like. Surprisingly the water cooled heads don't bother me and funcion very well.
Only problem I had with the water cooled heads was today. I pulled the headers off to put on the new one without the cat. Getting the front header bolts off was a bit more complicated than the older bike was with the radiators in place. I didn't want to pull the right side front radiator off but had to pull the front right foot boards off and had to almost pull the brake pedal out for clearance.
Got it all pulled off but then my rechargable Makita flashlights went dim, it was getting cold out in the shop (no fire in the wood stove) so I called it good for a day at 4PM. Should have stared earlier than I did, could have got more done if not completed. But it's winter and I got plenty of time.
