Well boys, I have been running without a front brake about 5 years now, and have decided to add a front brake. Not that a front brake would have helped me avoid last month's accident - it wouldn't have - but it will help with holding the bike on inclines at lights and give me more braking power.

I have decided to go with a disc brake with a remote master that would be mounted to one of the front down tubes. Still shopping around for all the stuff I'll need. Both of my lower legs are shaved, so first, I'll have to find another lower leg with all the lugs on it. Then I'll shave the fender lugs off, but leave the brake bracket lugs on - or, is there a way to fabricate something that could be welded to my existing lower leg to attach the bracket to?

Any feedback would be most appreciated.

not a big fan of welding something on the lower leg, especially a caliper mount. The weld would be fine, it's just the other metal around the weld area that gets weakened by the heat. If it were me. I'd get a lower leg with a lug but then , if it were me, I wouldn't have ridden a bike with no front brake for any length of time, if anything I probably use too much front brake.

Whenever I shave my legs I do both. It would look weird having one leg shaved, especially wearing shorts.

Just me but I would mount it on the bars right next to the brake lever, but that's just me.

Its hard to get a clean look with a front brake. To bad money is tight..2 small dual disks on the front at least looks balanced.

I located a used left Showa lower leg for around $30 on ebay (41 mm). Next step is to get a new (or used) 19" rim as mine is in terrible shape, a few new spokes to replace the pitted ones and have my wheel guy put the new rim on the hub.

A friend of mine who used to own a restaurant (in Calif.) always wore short pants and had very hairy legs. I used to kid him and tell him he'd get more tips from his clientele if he'd shave them LOL.
