There are various straight and tapered sections across the overall length. Our needles are not designed to tune a carburetor based on the old way of matching straight section diameters to a particular tuning experience (rich or lean). CVP needles are designed for model specific engine sizes and the known way each of these models breathe across the usable intermediate powerband.

As a side not about needles, Harley Davidson has officially discontinued importing the majority of their needles (from Japan) including the popular N65C. CVP's needle for Big Twins and pre-04 Sportsters is a very close cousin to that needle if you are looking for something similar. In fact some of our most frequent customers of that needle are Harley dealers themselves since they can't get the N65C any more... but they've asked me not to mention their names for obvious reasons ;)

The reason I ask, was I have an issue with my carb popping when I come to a sudden, or quicker stop, then take off. If I come to a slow stop, and either set still for a minute, or feather the throttle, it seems fine. It only does it once in a while. I've installed the CVP kit, with 48, and 195 jets. I was reading how one guy tunes his with a sportster needle, and a 42 slow jet. I was going to give it a try. It did this much worse, before I put in the CVP kit. I was hoping that the kit would solve the problem. It did for the most part, but every now and again it still happens.

Any thoughts, or ideas? Would putting in the 46 help?

It's an 05 Road King, by the way.
