I figure with 12+,000 miles on the bike, I should replace the lifters before they disintegrate on me. I bought Feuling lifters and just got the gaskets and o-rings. I'm kinda nervous about doing it, although looking in the manual, it doesn't look like much more than taking the old ones out and dropping the new ones in.

What have you guys got to say about it?

    do you have adjustable pushrods?

If you do and don't want to screw with
the adjusting, take off the tank, tops on the rocker boxes and pull plugs

Now put in 5th gear and rotate until cams have the lifters in the down position

Now remove rocker arm assembly, lift pushrods out by hand from top
seems like a lot of work but it's a butt load easier than adjusting pushrods

soak the lifters in a baggie of fresh oil, some will seep in, this will help pump them up

you should be able to remove the tappet block covers and pull the retaining
pin off, use a magnet to pull the lifters out. Then drop in the new ones using magnet so they don't bang on cam. put the anti- rotating bar back etc.

I do have adjustable pushrods. I've done that before on a Panhead. Is it much different? Until I get the tool that starts the gas flowing out of the vacuum system, anything is easier than removing that gas tank. But... It would give me the opportunity to polish up the rocker boxes. Hmmm

Gas tank is pia but not hard just do it when you are about out

Golf tee in hose finger over hole or get assorted rubber caps for a few $ at auto store and it comes off

Jmo if the pushrods are set easier up top. But either way it's a job

Removing back Allen head bolts from lifter covers required Allen's w ball ends.
