Hi all I am interested is installing a removal hardware Kit for a backrest and tourpak on my 1996 Road King. I have read somewhere here that the 1997-2007 kit also works on a 1996. Having a hard time finding one for a 1996. If anyone can take a picture of their set up of the hardware so I can compare that would be great. for the guy with later models 20o8 and up it is major change to the set up that will not fit my bike, I need to see where the points set up on the early version. As always thanks in advanced to all and any info who has put a detachable kit on would be great

the older bikes have a complicated setup, involves several brackets
removals of bolts that tie the fenders to the brackets it takes a bit more work
than the 09 and up bikes with the frame change which is two bolt on parts with three screws each.

this is the later model kit, 09 and up it WILL NOT fit your bike

Finding a picture of the complete kit for earlier bikes is difficult
but this is part of it

Mounting plate under tour pack, connect to detachable mount points above

ITs going to look like this

Theres a lot more parts. I'm not sure why it would fit a 97 and up and not a 96, sometimes you just got to give it a try and modify some things, see if you can find out what's different on a 96 rear end FLH vs a 97,

I don't know why it won't fit a 96, there must have been
some mounting changes for the fender.

Then again I've found ways to make parts fit, sometimes the moco
just doesn't thing things will fit.

I'm going to guess its the two triangle bits in the picture above

The front will go to the two chrome spacer bits that will replace two bolts on each side of the rear fender or right over the shock between it and the frame

If you look at the picture of the blue bike the two triangle bits bolt to the frame ends and then down to the chrome fender supports that run down the back sides of the rear fender
