I`m headed out early next month on an adventure I`ve always wanted to go on, since I heard/read of this Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, back in the early 70s...
I mentioned it to a friend at our New Year eve party, and neither has backed out...
Sturgis has always been outta my reach until this year...
Four are going in our group, three ABATE GA members and a probabale new member are leaving out on Aug.5 will arrive on the 8th...
I`ve been getting the Bike in shape fer the trip of 1800 miles one way, Changed fluids new chain and sprockets, tires and fixing the "little things"... We`ll ride quite a bit while in the area too, so I`m figuring 6000 miles on this trip...
Colorado and Pikes Peak are on the agenda after we leave Sturgis...
Then take the "LONG Way Home"...
    Dennis

I'll be passing through there sometime that week. Not counting on an overnight, but a quick T-shirt/cool drink then on to Billings or Butte. But who knows?

Maybe we might meet up with that (almost now) famous biker chick author!

You'll have a good time. It's a fun place, but be careful as some forget how to ride and spend too much time looking around versus paying attention.

We're skiping Sturgis this year and heading the East Coast and then back through the Blue ridge Parkways; should be a blast! Think round trip we're looking at 3700 miles. Can't wait!! ;)

When you are at Sturgis there is a big who-ha going on about the Name Sturgis Bike Rally and Black Hills, seems a bunch of people got together and trademarked the names and have been going around forcing all vendors to pay them fees if they want to use the name IE get a license....

Lawsuit going on where Locals are suing saying the group fraudulently obtained the trademark.

    Read about it here

    Trademark Fight, Intimidation Etc

    Sturgis Rally Trademark Fight

so if you go to buy anything sturgis ask the vendor
if they had to pay SMRI a license fee, if they say yes
    tell them no thanks....

I always try to buy the t-shirt that is made by the Sturgis chamber of commerce (official sturgis rally shirt) just to try and help the city out for all the hassle. besides the other ones you don't know who is getting the money - could be Al-Qaida.

One of the best pieces of advice I got on my first time was to learn how to pack and do it the same way every time. This will help you stay organized and not waste time repacking every morning.

Don't worry bout things like water. This is America, you can get bottled water anywhere. Take one or two bottles if you really need to but don't overload it. space is critical and your gonna need it for other things.

Oh yeah, take all your old underwear and old t-shirts and through them out as you use it so you don't have to do that much laundry.

    good luck.

An old wise man once said to roll your cloths, not fold them for room. Seems to work...

    A big 10-4 on that...
My list grows, as you post suggestions...
I`m getting things organized on the Bike now, such as ~ an second set of saddle bags to carry the necessary items (underwear and such) plus re-rigging the BackRest/Sleeping bag arrangement...
I learned I liked the sleepingbag/backRest on my last trip...I hope I don`t hafta use the sleepingbag fer sleeping ;)
Doing motels will cut down on weight also...Yeah that`ll lighten my pockets too...
Gonna try to make it to St. Louis area the first day Souix Falls second and Sturgis on the third...
    Please keep the suggestions coming,
    Dennis
