Okay guys, here's my newsest issue and it sucks.
I put new gas tanks on my 1970 FXWG ( 2piece fat bob tanks) and now the main 30 amp circuit breaker is flipping. I had to squeeze the tanks together to mount them and I think in the process I may have pinched some wires.
I disconnect the wire to the ignition from the main breaker and I still have a short. Any ideas? Should I just take the tanks off again and move the wiring around so the tanks don't pinch and the wiring is free and clear?
Do the tanks need to be mounted without any force pushing them together.
Where is the wiring and gang plugs supposed to reside? Between the tanks where the indentations are?
I converted the handlebar switches and housing to the 1996 style with the Deutsche connectors.

Oops, hate when that happens. I would guess the short is between the tanks since you didn't have an issue before, don't have a wiring schematic for the bike but more in likely there are additional hot wires other than the ignition in that harness hopefully you will be able to spot the bad spot once the tanks off.

It must be a hot wire going from the battery up between tanks.
I will start disconnecting stuff til I find the culprit.
    Thanks BG!

I found it, it was the wiring in between the tanks. I took one side off and the problem went away. I am gonna rewire some stuff to allow more room to move the Deutsche connectors more space. I knew when putting the tank on that it was tight and I had to force them together. I guess that's not a good idea. They should go on the bike without force. Some wires were being pinched.
    Thanks.

Good to hear you found the problem. Pinched wires can be a bitch to find.

check those wires to be sure one of them isn't frayed, cut, etc as when you
put it together it pushes them to the frame and voila, short...

    Pop goes the fuse...

Tommy you sure you don't want to sell off those old
shovels, dump the leaky ol primary, get rid of the oil leaks from the heads
eliminate electrical problems from your life?

That china chopper is calling you...

Here's a fun thing to do: Let the smoke outta your ignition module by touching the negative wire to the positve terminal on the starter solenoid~!
Lots of cool smells and sizzling noises, smoke too.~!
Yaaay, let's all do it now~!

Hey Chuck would you trade your pan for a custom monoshock chopper with a 100" rev-tech motor and tranny?

I actually didn't find the wire that was pinched but I do know it's from the tanks being squeezed together, so my plan is to reroute the wires/connectors and or make them longer so the tanks won't squeeze them anymore. sound good?

    Yes and no,
because it might rear it's head down the road
and I mean when you are down a road by yourself...

Take your time and go through it slowly
doing the wiggle test, turn on power and press
on the wires in different areas and see if you can short
it out and pop the breaker, once you see smoke or fire
you have found it, and it's better in the garage
than on the side of some backwoods road
with banjo music playing in the woods..
