    Just finished up the kit and went for a test run. Look around carb no leaks but I smelled fuel and pulled air filter off and some gas was in there. I was told by a few people to run a 45 and 175 jets. I installed everything that was in the kit to a T. The mixture screw was at 2.5 so I turned it down to 1 3/4 and it still has some gas in there but not as bad. I replaced, emulsion tube, main jet, Idle jet, slide mod, slide needle, spring, new gaskets. The old set up was 42 and 170 jets, carb was clean and run good but for the farts. It had an eazy screw in there and had a washers on the slide needle from the last owner. I did not put the washer on the new needle because the instruction did not say too. The bike has stage 1 air filter and straight flow exhaust. My question, Is the 45 to big causing to much gas? Should I put in the 44? The bike ran fine it did fart more when I turned down the air/fuel screw to 1.5 to 1 3/4. Any help would be great THANK YOU

    If you let bike idle with cover off air cleaner look for fuel. would more likely guess raw fuel in air filter is a leak. you would possible be able to see where it is coming from. possible bumped float level? ( careful don't start a fire on hot exhaust )

    Pulled off carb and opened it up and seen some gas in slide, don't know if it was from the vaccum hole in slide suck it up. I put the 44 jet in and put the thin washer back on the slide needle. It could be possible I push down some on the float :banghead:. What is the best way to check the float? Everything looks good, when I blow in fuel line and lift float lighty air is cut off slowly with not much lift. I check the steel sleeve it is in right,new diafram works I pretty much replace everything except sleeve. I am the second owner so I do not know what was done. Tomorrow I will put the carb on and test, it is very cold now so cool down does not take long.

    For an 883 the largest jetting should be 44/175. I wouldn't shim the needle included in our kit. Typically fuel overflowing back into the intake is caused by the float being too high or the float needle valve being worn. Jetting and the mixture setting would not cause the problem described.

    I took off carb and took it HD in Seaford DE and had them look at because I am new to this bike and never had one and the second owner. They look over the carb for about 2 hours and only charge me for an half hour and everything check OK except for the accelerator pump nozzle it was bent down alittle and not putting gas straight in carb. I was able to straighten it because they did not have one. Then I had a feeling I am going to take off intake manifold and check them gaskets, when I did the front one looked like someone dug at it with a screwdriver but there was no scatches I guess it was being suck apart. But I did check it with seafoam and the bike did not idle up or down, just had a feeling. Put her back together and with for a warming run, bike ran great still get some farting from a stop to start but not as bad as before. Did not check where air/fuel screw was yet I think its around 2.5 to 3. It is very cold here so that might have something to do with. I check in carb after run and there was some water vapor in there. O and I replaced them allen screws in the intake manifold for stainless bolts with blue threadlocker as HD said it was ok. What you think? It makes it easier to get too but I would to use graded bolts but they said I did not need them because there is barely no torque there. What do you think about the popping after start for a stop? Thank you!

    If the pop or hesitation from a stop is intermittent it could be either;
    1) a slight blockage within the mixture passage that connects the pilot jet to the mixture screw (see #3 in the link below),
    2) an exhaust leak at the head pipes/flanges. Its always a good idea to replace the crush gaskets between the head pipes and exhaust ports since reuse or over torquing can cause them to leak.
