06 street Bob fwd control install

I bought forward controls for my Bob last night, and found that on the new dyna models, I have to remove the primary to perform the installation. Is there anybody who has installed forward controls on an 06 Street Bob, and what kind of pitfalls might I run into. I haven't worked on a HD before, so any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated....... I have rebuilt engines before on a couple pickups and a car, so I'm not a novice at turning a wrench, just would like to know if I pull the primary off, are springs or something gonna go wizzing past my head all over the garage or something.

No springs and whatnot, but primary chaincase lube. Be ready to catch it up. best to pull the inspection cover, take a turkey baister, and suck out all you can prior to cracking the bolts.

tmug… the first thing you and anyone who wants to do their own maintenance is,,, Buy the service manual, it will save you lots of money, time and grief.
Yes, you will need to drain the primary, take off the cover and then plug the hole where your mid-controls come through, I used a simple brass automotive freeze plug. Did you buy a kit? Probably already has the right plug for it.

Amen killer b. Even if you NEVER turn a wrench on your ride...get the manual and read it. That way you won't sound like a total dumbass when ya talk to whoever does the wrenching for you. More things get screwed up simply because people tried to sace a few bucks and either didn't get a manual or didn't have the proper tool. I am always amazed when I see somebody use a pr of channel locks on a bolt instead of going to Walmart and getting a cheap socket.
And another trick if you are not real mechanically inclined...either a poloroid or a digital camera...take a pic of the project BEFORE you take it apart and several during the process....pics are so much better than memory

Yep, you bet, I have had a digital camera for about a year now and I always take a picture BEFORE I start taking things apart, as my memory is not what it use to be and its cheap insurance. The old saying goes, a picture speaks a thousand words.

Is Up, But I Always Seem To Forget Unscrewing My Clutch Screw And Sit There For A Couple Of Beers Wondering What The H##l Is Hold'n It On
