07 Ultra Rub/Vibration

    I have an 07 Ultra Classic that just today I started to notice a rub/vibration somewhere near the transmission or the rear tire area. It has 8,500 miles on it and I'm running Syn3 throughout the bike. What I noticed was a rubbing sound like a break pad rubbing on a warped disc. The sound does not change in any way when I apply the brakes either lightly or down hard on them! The wife says she can feel vibration on the floorboards! She thinks it seems worse on the left side of the bike!
    We rode about 30 miles this evening and then I heard/noticed the rubbing sound while cruising through the city streets. We were off the bike for about an hour. When we started out againd it didn't do it at first but some 25 to 30 miles later when we were back in town it started again. If I cut the engine off and coast it is still there and just sounds a bit louder! If it's there at highway speed I can't feel or hear it but then I don't hear that well these days.
    Any thoughts/suggestions??

    check the belt tension. check for the beltguard has shifted into the belt. look for rub marks on the tire. jack the rear tire off the ground and spin it.....let us know!...........:)

    Right on the money Chuck! The belt was too tight. I had the rear tire replaced a while back and I guess they over tightened it. Not sure why it took so long to start makin noise or I'm just that hard hearing now that didn't notice it till yesterday. Either way, loosening the belt slightly solved the problem!
