    Hi all,
I hope all is well and thank you in advance for your assistance. I have a 2006 103 CVO Ultra which I upgraded earlier with a pair of early Screamin Eagle mufflers, Screamin Eagle Open Air Cleaner and a Power Commander with a custom dynoed Map. Recently the bike has become harder to start, especially when hot - it "sneezes and burps" and there is a smell of gas. I am thinking my Power Commander might be the issue and have unplugged it. I tested it and it does start easier when cool but i have not run it any more than this to see what happens when it is hot. I contacted the local HD dealer to ask about a Stage 1 ECM upgrade and was told my bike already has it and that it will not be in a lean condition even with the open air cleaner and pipes. Is this true? How can i check my Power Commander to see if it is the problem? Thanks again!

You can unplug the Power Commander to see if that clears it up....Did you buy it from Fuel Moto??If so you can contact Jamie from FM let him know whats happening. If it had a Stage 1 flash and you got a custom map for stock ECM it may need a different map.
IMO the bikes are so lean from the factory some fuel management even on a stock bike would help it.

    Thanks Lucifer,
Yes I bought it from Fuel Moto. I unplugged it and it starts better when cold. with the Power Commander installed it always took 2 attempts to start even when cold. My HD dealer told me the CVO Ultras in 06 all came with a Stage 1 flash from the factory and that the open air cleaner and mufflers would therefore not put it in a lean state but I don't want to try it without hearing from some others with additional knowledge - a cooked engine would not make me a "happy camper." i will email Jamie to see if he has suggestions. Thanks!

Either way that bike would need more fuel, it's lean to begin with...

You said a custom dyno tuned map, then you mention Fuel Moto,
unless the bike was tuned on a dyno then what you have is a modified map
to your bikes needs, there is a difference.

There were no compression releases on the 103, it sounds like you have
some issues with the powercommander. I would remove it, and go for a ride, it
shouldn't hurt it to ride around a few hours and see if the problem persists.

If the same problem occurs, IE smell of gas, hard starting, then you have
issues in the engine/fuel delivery that need to be addressed. If the problems
go away, the issue is in the powercommander.

Pipes and a filter for a short time won't burn up the engine...

    Hi Hotroadking,
Thanks for the reply. The PowerCommander came fro Fuel Moto with a Map for my 103. I then had it dynoed at a Power Commander dealer and that is the custom map now in place. If it won't hurt to ride the bike for an hour or so I will try it and see what happens.

At least long enough to get it warm/hot and see if the problem persists without the PC
