I hate to bring up the gps unit again but I would like to wire in my charger. Whats the best way to get 12 volts to the handle bars. I was thinking the head light would be the best bet. Any suggestions and or warnings? The head lamp has 3 wires. Blk , white, and yellow. Haven't got out the volt meter yet but I hope one is 12v.

two of the wires will be 12volts.....one for highbeam, one for lowbeam, one for ground. i am not familiar with what is in your headllight. there may be 12 volts in the headlight. the safest way would be to wire from the battery, through a breaker/fuse to the bars. have fun and i hope this helped. if you look in the service manual it will give you great info where power can be "stolen".........

    I wouldn't use the headlight

You should have an orange wire with a white stripe that is a fused power link for asscy every hd I've had has this wire, it's usually tucked away maybe under the tank.

Find it and run it to a fused link for the GPS, you don't want to blow it.

Then from the gps you want to make up a connection using the quick disconnect like on the Battery tender. THis will let you easily disconnect and take into hotel, diners where ever you are

    Fuse protects from surge

Thanks for all the advise. I ended up tapping into the head light. I took the tank off looking for the orange and white wire but everything so so neatly tied up and wrap in black tubing that I decided for now I would take the easy road. In the head light the yellow wire was the low beam and the black was ground. I just used a rats tail and cut of the cigarette lighter end off the charger so it is detachable. There is already a fuse in the charger. It works for now. Thanks again

I hate using the dealer, but I've seen many bikes on the side of the road from wires grounding out.
I would of taken it to the dealer and paid them to wire it for me.

Just heard about somebody puttin some lights on a Bike, took it on a trip, it started giving problems and was dying. They took it to a dealer and got the ECm replaced and left for it to happen again.
Come to find out the wiring they had done for the lights was groundin out.
A lot of folks has a problem doing wiring.

If it has to do with money, do you want to spend it now or when yer away from home.
You can't take money with you. And one bad thing can mess a whole day or trip up.
