I'm about at wits end with this bike and hope someone here can provide some help or insight.

The core problem is that the bike will not take any throttle at all without the choke being active. When I roll on the throttle, the bike falls flat and will stall out unless I roll VERY slowly. It starts easily with full choke and idles fine.

    Current set-up:
    2004 1200R
slip-on pipes and Big Sucker air cleaner
CVP full package using their needle and emulsion tube
    185 main
    46 Pilot
Adj idle screw and have tried everything to 3 1/2 turns out
Slide diaphram is intact with no holes or tears. It does not appear that the slide hole was drilled as it is just over 1/8" dia
Accelerator pump squirts a strong mist when I roll on.

At this point I have tried jetting from 42-46 pilot and 170-185 main
I have replaced the manifold gaskets and have checked for leaks using both WD40 and propane. No leaks any more.

I've used the CVP kit on my Evo FXR and had perfect results with it. Something else is going on here and I have run out of ideas where else to look. I'm about ready to s**tcan the CV and buy a Mikuni.

Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

If the slide hole is "just over 1/8"diameter " it was drilled, should be 7/64"....If the slide is unmolested in your FXR, swap slides and try it in the Sporty

Double check the needle jet (image below) and that it either did not fall out or get installed upside down. This will cause the bike to fail when rolling on the throttle. The needle jet is visible when looking into the carburetor throat just under the needle and slide.

Also the accelerator pump diaphragm, if this is cracked or bad from sitting for prolonged periods in old gas it will not properly spray fuel when cracking the throttle open.

    Ken,
Thanks for the response. The rubber diaphragm is intact with no holes/ I can see the needle jet in the carb throat, but the end that shows through does not seem to have the beveled opening. If I remember from when I reassembled, the needle jet only went back in one way. If put in incorrectly the emulsion tube would not seat. Am I correct?
    Thanks

The needle jet actually feels like it fits better when installed backward which can be a tell tale sign that it is in wrong. Installed correctly it is very snug and can sometimes take some work to get it back in by wiggling or using something similar to the old needle as a guide to get it to correctly align back into the hole. The emulsion tube when reinstalled does not thread all the way down, it just lightly snugs down against the end of the needle jet. As long as you can see the wide/beveled end of the jet protruding into the carburetor throat it should be fine. Just be sure not to torque the emulsion tube or it will bend and seize.

Another thing to check to make sure is look at the accelerator pump. When those things implode than a lot happens too. Just a thought.

As I read what you wrote here I'm convinced this is the problem. I'll pull the carb when I get home from work and deal with this on the bench rather than trying to do it onthe bike. I'll report back. Many thanks.

    Ken,
That was it. The needle jet was installed incorrectly. I want to thank you for providing those pictures. That cleared it up completely for me along with saying that the jet needs to be guided into position as it wouldn't simply drop in when inserted correctly. I still need to tweak the slow jetting as it seems a little fat down there, but at least she runs now. Many thanks for your support and a great product line.

Great to hear you located the culprit. Sometimes it's the little stuff that can throw everything off.

The illustration is in post #5 above. If that silver piece, the needle jet, is installed incorrectly the bike will fall flat when you open the throttle.
