1982 Clutch slipping

    Hey guys glad i found you am having problems with my ole hawg clutches slip til they get hot I pulled them and cleaned them put them back and they still slip til she gets hot . Anyone one had simliar or same problem.?

    the reason they work when hot is they swell a bit. are you running in an oil bath?? open primary?? how is the adjustment on the clutch release?? what springs aare you running?? are the springs set at the correct length?? are the plates burned?? how is the linings on the discs?? are you using a shop manual to set the clutch?? a good shop manual is the most important tool you own......

    Thanks fer the comeback there Chucktx .
    No , my clutches are not in an oil bath ,
    I have good clutch release, stock original springs , and yes they are set correctly per the manual.
    No, the clutch plates and discs are not burnt or worn , they are old :( however and I do plan on replacing but not because they are worn or burnt .I am using the HD issue shop manual about $42 worth.. :mad:
    i believe i found my problem; :) while pulling my plates out again I noticed the last two plates were hanging up on the clutch studs due to some rust and oxidation so when I get up today I gonna give it a good clean job and the clutchs should release and take me thundering down the road! :) !

    Ok the ole hawg is back on the road , what had it bound up was not the clutch posts sticking, but the center adjustment screw , I backed of the nut and turn the bolt back 1 turn , tightened the nut and when I fired her up there was nothing but taxable horsepowerr going back to the rear wheel :)
    Guess i had missed that one !! :eek:
