Is anyone familier with these soft tail custom models?
What is your experience with them?
I'm looking for an Evo project bike like this. Can it be converted to a fatboy type bike?
The guy wants about $6k for his. It has a gas tank leak and brake leak too. She pukes oil sometimes also.
Any opinions for me to consider?
Should I stick to shovelheads or is this a good project idea?
    Thanks guys!!
    TC

Where it puken from? There an overflow on the right side? If so, that is what it is for. I looked at an EVO and it did the same thing. I wasn't to worred bout it.

Yep you can convert it to whatever you want, even make it a fake bagger with
the stuff you can buy today.

Evo is a good engine, if it's in decent shape, not much hop up material in the ol stock 80, a mild cam, head port, some pistons and pipes about it. Can't bore it out or jump it up to the next size without boring the cases.

If it's puking oil my guess is the checkball in the cam case is stuck in the open
position and the oil is seeping into the cases filling them. Let it run about 10 min and watch the oil in the tank, check to see if it's low first, then watch it fill back up
as it runs. if all works well then you'll need to pull the cam cover (which requires taking the pushrods out or you'll never get the cover back on) and fixing the check ball.

    Offer him $5 and duck...

The later years mid 90's had all the upgrades and fixes,

The Evo came out in 84, so you are in Gen 1 first editions
for the Evo, it won't have any of the internal fixes that
typically follow the cycle of a product until it ended in 99 for FL
    00 for Softail..

Nothing wrong with it design wise.

I have a split fatbob tank and front wheel off a fatboy and a fatboy seat pan and the foam padding, used the seat cover on another fatboy I had. Also have stock fatboy pipes. Maybe some other stuff.

'84 to '99 were good years for Evos...Softail is a Softail all you gotta do is change the front end to Fatboy or Heritage or whatever you want....

The seat pan is off a 96 Fatboy, HD changed the pan in 95, it is just a little different, tank and fenders are off a 96 Fatboy, wheel is off a 2005 Fatboy it will fit cause I put the wheel I had on the 96 on the 05. You just have to use the spacers of an 00 - 06.
No pictures of the fender, it matches the tanks, no pin stripping on fender, front fender is damaged and is Silver, I have been told it is repairable.
