    I bought this bike "cold" after being stored for 2 years, anyone with experiance in bringing a cold bike to life please help

    i would treat it much like you would when bringing an aircraft out of moth balls..purchase a factory service manual..check all fluids and change, check tires and all electrical systems....mice and critters love electronics, check for nests in the intake and exhaust system, check tires,brakes.....have fun and let us know how it goes!!!!!!!!!!:)

    Also double check the fuel system for old fuel IE carb bowl inside tank,fuel lines ect

    thanks, I bought the screamin eagle syn 3 oil. Thats all I need right? I was also wondering how much "play" front to back should be in the handle bar mount? Mine seems to have about 3/4 inch but everything is tight. I bought the clymer maintenance book, is thre a better one out there?

    The Clymer book is OK, but the Factory Service Manual is the best one out there a little more expensive than the clymer but worth every penny,I'd also recommend the Parts catalog to go with the service manual...all the part numbers and exploded diagrams. I use it as much as the service manual.
    I would go with gear oil 75-90, 75-110 or 75-140 in the tranny, I'm not a fan of engine oil in the tranny or in the primary.:devil:

    With your handlebar mount you may need new bushings, the problem usually seems a lot worse if there is taller handlebars on the bike as you have more leverage, but I think I would go ahead and put in a set of polyurethane bushings in, they are stiffer than stock, may possibly have a little more vibration but not necessarily, nothing beats a true Harley manual,Todd

    The rubber bushings in the handlebar mounts are worn out and you need to replace them. I would not put SYN3 motor oil in my tranny. That oil was meant as an engine oil. I would recommend a gear oil like Redline or some other gear oil for motorcycles. In an older motor, Redline and others also makes a good choice.
    Spend the bucks and get a HD service manual it will be well worth the investment.

    Excellent, glad you got a good Evo.

    As said the HD service manual is the way to go, basically you could perform either a 5k or 10K service, manual will list the things you need to do,change,check.

    Fluids are a good start,
    Oil - HD Syn is fine (I prefer Mobil1 Vtwin from Autozone)
    Trans- Redline Heavy Shockproof or HD Semi Syn gear oil (that older style evo trans will shift a boatload better with Redline Heavy)
    Primary - HD primary oil

    I'd check everything on the HD list to be sure things are in good shape, and how old are the tires, if original, well you probably dont' want to hear it but I'd replace them, they have shelf life that if ignored could cost you your life..

    Thanks for all the info, I bought a por-15 treatment for the tank. I can't get the float out of the tank so I hope it doesn't get damaged by the sealant. I should be able to start it this week-end, I'll let you know how it goes.

    There is a way to get the float out , if you use the tank cleaner you'll ruen the float , the cleaner leaves a coating on it & will make it heavey so bad reading on gas gauge

    Thanks again, I hope I'm not wearing out my welcome, but.....How does the float come out, I turned it every way I can, the "post" in the tank seems to catch on the float, help. I rigged a I.V. gas tank last night and the bike started right up. I need to get the tank finished so I can take it around the block. Thanks

    I can't remember on your year , look in the BOOK it should say in the fuel section or try A dealers you trust or a Indy shop if not in your book
