the MM systems are famous for having issues like this.

I'd clean out the intake and throttle plate with carb cleaner,

You have a TPS sensor on the right side of the intake that the throttle shaft runs into, moving it changes the signal, there is a range that is proper, if it's loose that could have shifted and caused this.

Or if the TPS is going or gone bad.

I forget the range, a SM will have the proper range and you'll need a meter to check it. Even if you get a new TPS you need to set this up.

mine is an 06, so not sure how different yours is, but from what i've read in the diagniosic manaul so far indaicates that the veicle speed sensor sets the idle speed. too... from what i've gathered w/o the proper tools i.e a breakout box, it's nearly impossible to know for sure. w/o the proper tools it's pretty much a guessing game. if i come across anything more i'll let you know:devil:

oh . . . another thing. i found that the vss is magnetic, if it's dirty with metal fragments from the trany it'll idle high. good luck

There are a few things that the Magnetti-Marrelli FI system have been loved/hated for. One is the hot and cold idle setup. the manual covers the procedure fairly well. The base setting for the TPS setting is around .65 volts. You have to set the hot idle speed to 1000 to 1050 and then set up the cold idle to 1500 RPM. I have found quite a few throttle plate shafts that are cracked where the screws go through to attach the plates and the slop with give you fits. If you can get your hands on Service bulletin M-1105 it gives a much better explaination of the calibration procedure that the sevice manual. Once you are able to set up the FiI it does run pretty well.
