Has anyone else heard of HD having bad chrome on the newer bikes. My 98 RK never had this problem. On my 15 Ultra Limited some of the chrome looks like shit. I don't know if you can tell from these pictures. 2 of them are the wheels. As you can see the back wheel is like new,but the front wheel is tarnishing.

My 2005 Fatboy has shirty chrome. It looks as though there are tiny holes in it.

Even my Harley Thinderstar chrome wheels look like there are pinholes in them. Never saw it on my Japanese bikes

Lot of it is EPA regulations on Chrome, makes doing the process
difficult and it's not as good as it once was.

My 11 CVO mirrors were de-laminating on the glass side so much
that you had to be careful when wiping the mirrors. Front wheel
had de-laminating chrome on the hub area as well, it was rubbing off the ends
of the chrome grips (heated) as well.

JMO but 5 years is about the limit on an HD before it needs to be traded
or you risk not only delaminating chrome but engine issues, trans issues.

At 60 K I had compensator go out, transmission main shaft bearing, shifter
lever, bad chrome on front wheel, bad chrome on mirrors and grips, noise from lifters (replaced with SNS) more noise from top end, HID lights flicker on one side on High Beam main ignition switch wouldn't electrically lock (twice happened. Neighbors 11 RG radio has gone out for the second time of course no warranty

After reading that I wonder why I bought another, LOL

Thanks EPA. Of course everyone will blame MOCO. In their defense it's hard to build the best product with unreasonable gov't limitations.

Probably wouldn't hurt to polish regular to keep the chromed surface clean. Weather changes don't help.

I polish my chrome very often. Afraid that the pinholes in it will become pitting. My oil tank came painted same. Color as tins. Paint started to peel and I discovered a chrome oil tank under the paint ! I stripped it and now have a chrome oil tank. Go figure why in the world they would paint a chrome tank let alone expect the paint to stick for long

'Used to be,, "never polish chrome, Wash it with soap and water then 'wax' it". Now it seems chit won't come off unless you use some kind of "cleaner" . PS That cleaner cuts into chrome. Doh!

I use Mothers Metal Polish, no chrome being removed by it.

Thanks for the replies. Like I said I owned my 98 RK for 16 years and it washed up great every time. I seriously never saw anything like this on that bike. I keep thinking I must have run behind a truck at some point that was spilling chlorine or something corrosive cause it looks like its only in the front. I'll take it to the dealer in a few days and see what they say. It's still under the 2 year factory warranty. I'll make sure the area warranty rep hears about it too.
