I have a 2003 e-glide standerd and when I am riding I feel like I am having to stretch for the bars. I was wondering does anybody know how hard it would be to add some apes to it ? I have never seen one with apes but I have friends that say they have. Thanks for the help!

i dont think it would be a big problem, remember that all controls attached to the bars will have to be made longer tho.....

Thanks Chucktx...have you ever seen one with apes? I would like to see a pic of one but i have had no luck on the internet. A couple of mechanics at the local dealership that i know well said it was going to be a hassell because all the wires and stuff inside the fairing.they did not really want to do it. I guess I am going to try and do it myself this winter. Trying to find a set that are wide at the bottom like mine may be hard. Thanks Chucktx

    Beware

Always beware about the apehanger law in all states, including your own. :D I know about being pulled-over in a strange state, and not having enough money for the ticket. Bummer...

Killer-b....I guess I need to clarify when I say ape hangers...I do not want them where they are over my head I just want them longer and a little higher than what I got ...I will be pulling them back toward me. I live in N.C and I do not think we have a law about the length of bars , but I have heard some horror stories of people being stopped in other states. Thanks for the info!

Find another dealer who has mechanics that aren't quite so lazy. It is really no big deal to extend the wires and put them inside the bars. You will also need to get longer throttle cables and clutch cable. In all it is about a 5 hour job if you know what you are doing. The things that eat up extra time are removing the exhaust so the tranny cover can be removed to replace the clutch cable and doing the wiring extensions for the switch housings. While you have it all apart it is a good time to replace the switch housings, master cylinder and clutch perch with chrome.

    Apes

In my opinion, the apes would look a little out of place on an e-glide. You may want to try using some pull backs and mini-buckhorns or something similar. There are so many options it's literally endless.

    Good luck!

Yea i need something that is longer that I can pull back that are comfortable. Is J&P cycles the best place to get them? Or is there any place online that you would reccomend?

Hey uh, Breeze315...Who do you think pays for the this joint? Why would you go elsewhere and probably pay more when you could be helping to support this site? Contact sam@directparts.com and he will get you straight.

    Ape Hangers

Here in Tennessee we have a limit of 15" above the seat. I checked my stock bars and they are at the limit. The real question is do they enforce it? I see the same riders with their "reach for the sky" ape hangers on a regular basis. Either they are stubborn or Five-O doesn't care. You probably want to go with something in the 8.5 - 10" mini-ape range... but I would check into your state law and whether it gets enforced or not before I went to the hassle.

I live in N.C and I just sold a chopper that had 20's on it and never had a problem with the law. Alot of people in our town have apes that are tall and the law does not really seem to notice. Thanks Breeze

I hope I do not offend anybody when I say I do not care much for American Chopper but scanning through the channels I saw Paul Sr. on a Road Glide and he had some taller bars than what comes on it and they really looked great! that is the look and style that I will be trying to get in the near future. That way I can set back more and relax when riding.
