I broke the drive belt on the on my sportster 883r it calls for a 136 tooth belt. My question is should I replace it with a 137 tooth belt off a 1200, so if I convert the bike latter to a 1200 I can put a 29 or 30 tooth pully on the front. Will a 137 tooth belt be to big for right now ???:wtf:

No. But it will affect your top-end a little, maybe 5 mph.

I'd either put the 136 tooth back on,or change the pulley and put the 137 tooth belt on...I don't know how much longer the 137 tooth belt is,slight chance you wouldn't be able to tighten the longer belt enough...
Maybe johnnybiker can help you with this,I think he changed the gearing on his Sporty...

1 tooth more on the belt makes it 1/8" longer. There is enough adjustment on the Sporty swing arm to go 2 extra teeth.

Alex are you saying one tooth is 1/8in ? so if I drop four teeth on my sprocket would =1/2 in & I measured about 3/4 in left open at the rear of my softail axel adjusment , I want to drop the 70 tooth rear for a 66 tooth

That's too much for a Softail. Each tooth is a 1/4" divided by 2 = 1/8" overall length. You'd have to buy a new belt for the Softail.
