2006 dyna and EPA

    Howdy,
    I am about to trade up again and am looking at a new '06 dynaglide. My question is I have heard some scuttlebutt that the EPA has screwed things up as far as performance mods go. Stuff like O2 sensors welded in the pipes, so you can only swap slipons not the whole exhaust, being unable to retune the injectors etc. And I have noticed that theres not a lot of stuff out there for the 06 dyna. So my question is two fold A) is the stuff I am hearing true or just another one from the rumor mill. And if the lack of performance hop up potential is true for the dyna series is it also true for the softails?
    Anybody with any information I sure would appreciate it....

    I’m sure the after market will catch up. lots of changes to the bikes and the laws. Givem time.

    Catchin up....

    I am sure the after market guys will catch up....as much as they can. My biggest concern is how much they will be able to do. With 15K+ now for a new bike I have no desire to plunk that down and then be told by Big Brother what I an and can't do to it. I wont ever get rid of my older bikes ( 1966 Shovel and 1986 SuperGlide) So I can always wrench on them. But IF the 06's are that screwed up by EPA then I will find an 05. Still some around. So what I desperately need is someone that really has the bottom line with the new info.
    I have read the deal about kit bikes and all (Still wonder if a basket case falls into that catagory, *shrugs*). Seems a lot of that was more inspired by lobbyist money supplied by the manufacturers to shut down smaller bike builders/shops. As it stands I am thinking about going with a 06 soft tail standard instead of the dyna. Lots of potential there and parts like exhaust etc are already there.
    The 6 speed is cool on the dyna but hell me and half the Universe made it with just 4 speeds and a 74 incher for decades. So .......

    This big brother thing may end all our riding as well as customizing our bikes. If you belong or have heard about ABATE they are about the only lobbing force in DC that we have, this could be the end to alot of bike related things we enjoy. Their webb site is www.mrf.org Dutch

    good friend of mine bought a 06 FXDL. He put thunderheaders on it, big bore kit, and tunable ignition module. His seems to run just fine. There is a recall on the FXD that has something to do with the shift linkage. I would check that out.

    Thanks to you guys for the answers. ABATE is something everyone that rides should get up with....I have been involved since back before they changed what the letters stand for.... And thanks a lot for the heads up on the shifter linkage recall..Ride Free.....

    Hey it's not that bad in fact o2 sensors are a great thing when it comes to performance

    See EFI without an o2 is a open loop system the ECM has a map and that's all it knows, it interprets throttle position, and a few other things but it really can't tell whats happening to the fuel mix.

    Now pop on an o2 sensor and you have a closed loop system, one that the ECM can get information on fuel air mix in the pipes, now we have an onboard dyno where the ECM can react to the way the motors running.

    Daytona twin tech already has such a system and others are following, some exhausts already come with the o2 bung welded and plugged, Rienhart I think.

    Anyway, you can weld these bungs into any aftermarket exhaust you buy.

    Now you can get an aftermarket tuning system and setup the efi to run sweet all the time. S&S has a IST type EFI system that can do this as well, as Q says to Bond, "its called the future so get used to it" LOL

    Anyway it's a good thing don't worry about it and the aftermarket was ahead of HD on this.

    HD's efi systems are old school, look at the new hot rods, the EFI Japanese tuner cars use all the tools to make massive power from small motors.

    Won't be long and you'll want a EFI bike with that type of system the tuning ability will be to do all you want with a few wrenches and a PC system.
