Has anyone heard specifics regarding the rumored issues with the new 6 spd trans?

4th and 6th gears are helical cut to reduce noise.5th gear is staightcut.straight cut gears will make noise but they are a stronger design and can support a greater load. They are recommending to dealers to change fluids with Formula plus Transmission lube. There are two or three separate "issues" (I use that word because some of the "issues" may not be actual problems, per se) The first is 5th gear whine, which people are now saying is supposed to be normal due to what I stated in the beginning of my post. The second is a clatter sound, which is being investigated. The third, which I believe is actually related to the second is a noise within the primary.

Well put, and I'd like to throw in that this is apparently only affecting a small percentage of 07's overall, but those experiencing these problems are being very boisterious about them (and rightly so). So, it is getting around obviously, but does not appear to be a high percentage in the grand scheme of things. It also appears to be mainly affecting the baggers (for the most part overall). I have a 2007 softail custom and have no tranny issues at all. The few noises that I did hear originally when shifting, were a little louder than past bikes, but were considered by me to be nothing to worry about. Now that I have some Vance & Hines pipes, Big Sucker A/C and SERT installed - this bike is exactly as every other Harley I have owned the last 8 years - just more powerful and a joy to ride at 70+ mph. I'm very happy with it, as are the majority of the 07' owner's out there..........

Buddy with an 07 street glide hasn't mentioned any noises

Rode several this week at biketoberfest.

Couple of guys said the CVO Dresser made a whining noise, that supports the 5th gear issue as we never got to a speed that 6th was needed (legally that is ;) ) on the test rides

I didn't notice a whine on the three other baggers I rode.

Didn't jump on a softail or dyna.

then again you got to figure these bikes are going 12 15 hours a day with good, bad and ugly riders on them. Some ride normal and some of us (unmentioned) flog the living crap out of them) ride a bit more aggresive.:p

correct me if I am wrong, I'm sure you will, the dealer was explaining that of course the 8ci increase only gained you a few more ponys and the 6spd trans is split on the low end not the high end which is still a 1:1 not an overdrive as you would suspect.

I'll agree that the improved horsepower and torque seems a little low for 8 more inches (on paper), but they are definately more torquey (seat of the pants feel) than a stock TC88, and with a stage 1 - they really come alive and distance themselves a little more from the 88's with similiar mods. I'm not sure on the tranny being split one side or the other, but it is completely different across all gears. These bike's will lug alot more noticeably if you try to ride and shift them as you would a TC 88 motor and 5 speed. That is some of the "tranny noises" I believe. I have to shift 8-12 mph later in all gears to keep from lugging and don't attempt to put it in 6th gear until at least 65 mph (70 is better though). That 6th gear is very nice if traveling at speeds fast enough to use it. Very smooth, low RPM's - it's an improved experience to travel the highway's now.........

Talked with the guy riding the new street glide says it does whine in 5th between certain speeds must be a function of the design

He is going to run redline heavy shockproof in the trans when he changes to see if that helps.

    07 six speed

    1) I bought an 07 Street Glide in July, have 4200 miles on it as of yesterday. The neutral light has been on for most of the 4200 miles. Dealer has tried to fix it 3 times, but it comes back on as I ride out of his parking lot.

    2) The toe shifter has always seemed to have excess vibration. It would hammer on my foot when my foot was too close. Dealer is trying to figure out this one.

    3) Toe shifter splines stripped out the other day. Possibly the result of the vibration combined with the fact that I have to make several shifts trying to find neutral everytime I stop, since the neutral light is always on.

So far the dealer has been cooperative, but I am dissappointed in the HD factory support as I know the dealer has been in contact with them over the neutral light and they don't seem to have a clue.:(

I use the Redline in my 06 Ultra where 4th gear whine is common problem. It helps a little, but the whine still won't go away.

MUST NOT BE ANY OLD HOT RODDERS ON HERE, DON'T ANYONE REMEMBER HOW THE CHEVY'S BACK IN 60'S HAD A WHINE IN THE REAR END AND IF I'M NOT MISTAKIN WAS FROM THE SAME THING, TO MAKE THE GEAR END STRONGER TO HANDLE THE TORQUE, IF U PUT HEAVIER OIL IN IT WILL SLOW THE CHANGING OF THE GEARS. I HAVE 07 SCREAMIN EAGLE (110ci) THE WHINE DOES NOT BOTHER ME NEAR AS MUCH AS THE NOISE THE AUTOMATIC CHAIN ADJUSTIER DOES, BUT HAVE FIGURED OUT WHAT TO DO ABOUT THAT PROBLEM, DON'T USE 6TH UNTIL 70+ MPH

    LIVE EASY, RIDE HARD

PROSPINNER SEEMS LIKE YOU NEED TO FIND ANOTHER DEALER
I have an 06 Dyna FXDI 3500 with 95 conversion smae trans similar disp w/shiels bags etc I weigh in at 310 lbs and my xyl is 200 I think when we ride double I have to take care not to lug the engine too badly or I get excessive gear/primary/engine noise, this is all my fault riding solo no problems. I also put the screamin eagle clutch spring and an aim tamchi clutch unit in this bike and boy what a difference clutch is easier no clunking going from neutral to first and back again and the slippage on full throttle gear changes is totally gone. This unit is exceptional and takes less than an hour to install and can be done through the side cover without removing the primary cover.
